  1. step : Removing the Skid Plate (1:10)
    • Remove the four 15 mm bolts that are securing the skid plate.
    • Once those are out, remove the skid plate
  2. step : Un-plugging the Actuator (1:39)
    • Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry up on the little latch and unplug the actuator.
  3. step : Removing the old Actuator (1:50)
    • Using a pair of large slip joint pliers, grab the bolt and unscrew counterclockwise. Once you've got it started, it should come right out.
  4. step : Installing the new Actuator (2:40)
    • Work in reverse of the installation process. There may be some grease that drips out-make sure you have a Teflon Coating, and that you get it straight in.
    • When pulling it in, don't pull too tight-you don't want to strip the plastic threads.
  5. step : Replacing the Skid Plate (3:16)
    • While holding the skid plate up, replace the four 15 mm bolts.
    • Tighten these bolts up to 30 or 35 foot-pounds so they don't go anywhere.

What wire on the vehicle do you splice the brown wire on the harness to?
James F December 29, 2017
look for a 3 wire connector at top drivers side of transfer case. I believe it is called the transfer case switch connector in wire diagram, i installed on 96 Chevy p/u. It was pretty close to the transfer case motor. This connector is mounted upright, and has Blu, Brown, and some other color wire, light Blu maybe. splice into the brown, it will be 12v on when switched to 4hi and or 4lo.
R I December 29, 2017
I didn’t splice into the harness. I ran the wire inside to the connection box on the firewall behind the emergency brake. In the DRK GRN slot, it just takes a small female blade connector. Hope this helps

Erik D January 8, 2020
The one I got when I purchased this was a motorized unit, hence the extra brown wire and puck spacer.
