Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how- to- video helps you out. The next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1A Auto.com. Thanks.
In this video we're going to show you how to remove and replace a mirror on this 2003 Nissan Maxima, but it's the same for any 2000 or 2003 Maxima. New mirrors are available at 1A Auto. Our mirrors will go on. They will fit just like the original. They usually come molded in black so they make a great replacement for any car and you can paint them to match if you so desire. The tools you'll need are a small flat-blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a door panel clip tool, or a putty knife to pry the door panel off and you'll also need a 10 millimeter socket with a ratchet.
First use a small flat-blade screwdriver and pop off this cover here. Down here you'll see a little grommet here. You'll need the screwdriver first to pry up. You see a Phillips screw there and then right here you'll put the screwdriver in and pry out, once you've pried out some you'll see the handle back in here just kind of put the screwdriver in there and release that. Phillips screwdriver, remove the Phillips screw behind here.
Then just fast forward here a little bit as I remove that Phillips screw and then the one that's down in the door pull cup. Now this little switch plate comes up and kind of work it back and out. Then grab your small flat-blade screwdriver again and on each one of these connectors there's just a little tab in the middle, just push on the little tab and release it. The same thing here push on the tab and release.
Now you use either a door panel clip tool or a putty knife and I usually go right in the bottom put it between the door and the panel and slide it and find one of the clips and then pull, once you've released one of them free the rest will usually come out. Now a screw actually just kind of came out right out of there and then right around and then I release and the door panel comes up and now in behind, again a small screwdriver and there's a few harnesses, there's one up here press in on the tab, release it. Two down here, this one press up, release. The courtesy light, press the tab, release it, panel comes off.
The mirror, this panel right here, pulls off, firmly. Your mirror connects right here, just press again a little tab, use a screwdriver if you need to. Press the tab and release that. There's three 10 millimeter nuts right here, best bet is a ratchet with a deeper socket, like this. Remove these three nuts. I'm just going to fast forward as I remove the three 10 millimeter nuts.
Now that you have those off, remove your mirror, or what happens to be left of it. Mirrors from 1A Auto, they're going to come molded in black. If you want them to match, this vehicle is a black car, but the mirror is painted in gloss black. If you want the new mirror to match that, you'll need to repaint the mirror. If your car isn't black, you can be as crude as just going to a hardware store and finding a color that matches, for colors like white, that's not very difficult. If you want to match it better, best to go to an automotive parts store that has a paint department. There they can match the color on your car, usually by giving them the VIN or the color code, they can help you with that. They can put some paint into an air charged spray can and you can refinish the mirror yourself.
For re-installation, pretty much just a reverse of procedure. Make sure that the harness goes in without any pinching. The mirror in place, I'm going to take my socket and put a nut in there. Put it on like that, so it's held in place. Again, here I"ll fast forward as I put all three nuts into place and tighten them up nice and firm. Tighten up the nuts and then plug in the mirror. Put this corner piece back on.
Then the reinstall panel, just bring the panel close to the door, reconnect the three harnesses, one for the memory switch, this car has memory seats. One is the memory switch, one's just the door module and the other one is the courtesy light. Bring the door panel up and hang it off the window sill. It goes in towards the window and down on top of the window sill. There's a little piece of insulation that 's usually glued to the door panel, it had come off mine, so I carefully put it back in there. Before you go too far, make sure that you pull the harnesses up and through for the window and mirror switches. Then around the edge of the panel, you can use your fist and activate the clips around the edge. I'm going to speed it up here as I just finish up.
Two Phillips screws, one up at the front, install that, then plug in your window switch and put it down in, put the front up end first, force it forward and clip the back end. Put the Phillips screw in and tighten it up, then the bezel around the door handle. Finish up by putting the little trim panel over the screw in the front.
