The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was initially a trim package for the Oldsmobile Cutlass, but quickly developed into its own automobile line due to its popularity. The Cutlass Supreme was in production from 1966 to 1997. The Cutlass Supreme was larger and more refined than the smaller Oldsmobile Cutlass. It featured cloth or vinyl seats, bucket seats in the coupe or convertible models, large arm rests and plenty of cabin room. A 330 cubic inch Rocket V8 powered the early Cutlass Supremes, pumping out 320 hp. Three and four speed manual transmissions were available as was a two speed automatic. As with most cars of the era, the Cutlass Supreme evolved through the 70's and 80's. Growing larger and more powerful for the 70's, strict federal emissions regulations forced the eventual downsizing of the Cutlass Supreme. In 1982 the Cutlass Supreme distanced itself from the Cutlass to become rear wheel drive, but this was short lived. 1987 and '88 represented the final years for the rear-wheel drive Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme sedan and coupes. They were replaced by front wheel drive models on the W-body platform. The RWD Cutlass Supreme was short lived, but holding true to its roots, was built with all the comfort and luxury we're used to in an Oldsmobile.
