Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear-end side door handle on this 2003 Nissan Maxima, pretty much the same for any 2000 to 2003 Maxima, as well as the Infinity I30. We're going to show you the driver's side rear. The passenger side rear is the same procedure. Tools you'll need: small flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, and either a door panel clip tool or a putty knife to pry the door panel off.
To start, use a small flat blade screwdriver, and right down in this pull cup there's just a little cover. Kind of pry it and twist, and you'll see a Phillips screw right here. Now come over here, pry up and out on this bezel, and then you can push it down and pull it out back. Then come up front, up and through here down, and the bezel comes off. You can see it basically has little holes here that attach on there.
Now use a Phillips screwdriver and remove this screw. Go back to your small flat blade screwdriver, over here, pry up gently and, under here, pry up gently again. This comes up and out. There's just a little button on this connector, push in with a flat blade screwdriver and pull that off. Now you'll need a putty knife or door panel clip tool, come into the center, put it up, you're going to slide it over, and there's a clip pull out nice and firm. You'll need to just slide your fingers around the edge and pull nice and firm to get all the clips out. Then your door panel should lift right up and off. The weatherstrip pulled away from the door panel. I'm just going to bend these tabs back, put it down on, and then bend the tabs back on the backside.
There are four tabs to hold this bezel on: two on the top, two on the bottom. You'll see I pried the two on top, pull the bezel out, and it comes down. Then I'll pry the two on the bottom to remove it. Okay, then either a Phillips screw or a 10mm socket and ratchet, Phillips screwdriver works, remove the screw, and those slide back and out. Then you pull the handle out, and you can lift up on the rods, pull this, lift up on the rods, and the handle comes off.
Okay, my handle's in good shape, so I'm just going to put it back in. Just put it back in, pull both rods out. You clip this one in and just get this one up, put them both in, turn your handle like that, slide it back, put it into the door, make sure it's flush against the door, and slide it forward. Put this screw back in. Tighten it and then this bezel just slides back into place. Push this on and then just make sure you put this insulator back on.
Now, put your door panel back on, make sure it's right up against the window. Just slide it down into place. Just make sure that you pull this back up and it rests on top. Push this insulator back in. The fabric on the door panel, just make sure it goes around the outside of the handle. Activate the clips. Just pull your harness up through, that's the right way, plug in the switch, slide this in place. That goes down in, Phillips screw to hold it. This trim bezel here just snaps back on, and then this little button just goes back on here.

Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we show you how to remove and replace an inside door handle on this 2003 Nissan Maxima. It's pretty much the same for any 2000 to 2003. We do this on the driver's front door, but the procedure is the same for all doors. Although getting the door panel off is maybe a little bit different for the rear doors. The only tools you'll need include a small flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a door panel clip tool or a putty knife to pry the door panel from the door, and a bolt that holds the door panel on. 10mm socket with a ratchet is the easiest tool to use, although you could use your Phillips screwdriver to do that.
First, use a small flat blade screwdriver and pop off this cover here. Down here you'll see a little grommet here. Use a screwdriver just to pry up. You see a Phillips screw there, and then right here you pry out and just put the screwdriver in there and release that. Phillips screwdriver, remove the Phillips screw behind here. Just fast-forward here a little bit as I remove that Phillips screw. Then the one that's down in that door pull cup. Now this whole switch plate comes up. Kind of work it back and out. Then grab your small flat blade screwdriver again, and on each of these connectors there's this little tab in the middle. Just push on the little tab and release it. Same thing here, push on the tab and release.
Now you use either a door panel clip tool or a putty knife, and I usually go right in the bottom, put it between the door and the panel, and then go right in the bottom, between the pin and panel, and slide it and find one of the clips, then pull. Once you release one of them, usually the rest of them come out. My screw actually just came out right out of there. Then right around and release, and then the door panel comes up. Now just behind, again, a small screwdriver, and there's a few harnesses. There's one up here, press in on the tab, release it. Reach down here, this one press up, release, and then your courtesy light, press the tab and release it, and it comes off.
There are four tabs, you can see right here, you want to use a small screwdriver and pry, pull out, pry up, and release the tabs. Pry carefully, you don't want to break this bezel. Pull up and off and pull down and out. Then release the bottom ones and that comes out. There's a 10mm bolt right here. Remove that 10mm bolt and then the handle goes back. Then you can pull it out. Let's see here, just pull it this way, this rod will pull up and out, and the same thing with this one. This one pulls up and out.
Obviously my handle's in good shape, but a new handle from 1A Auto is going to go in just the same way. Put your handle like this, put the bottom one in first, guide the rod in there and lift up, put it on, and then the lock rod, same thing. Then push the handle to the door to make sure it's on there. Pull it forward, put this bolt in, tighten it up, slide this back in and on.
Then, to reinstall the panel, just bring the panel close to the door and reconnect the three harnesses: one for the memory switch, this car has memory seats so one's the memory switch; one's just the door module; and then the other one is the courtesy light. Now bring the door panel up and hang it off the windowsill. It goes in towards the window, and then down on top of the windowsill. There's a little piece of insulation, it's usually glued to the door panel. It had come off mine, so I carefully put it back in there. Before you go too far just make sure that you pull the harnesses up and through for the window and mirror switches. Then just around the edge of the panel you can use your fist and just activate the clips around the edge. Now I'm going to speed it up here as I just finish up. Two Phillips screws, one up at the front, install that, then plug in your window switch and put it down in. Put the front up in first, force it forward, and then clip the back in. Put the Phillips screw in and tighten it up. Then the bezel around the door handle, and finish up by putting the little trim panel over the screw in the front.
