My shop could only find one for about $100 more than this, and the one they found was used. Had this shipped right to the shop, no issues.

Does not need balancing but does not seem to be good quality

I installed the driveshaft myself on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 4.7L V8 and thought it needed balancing but it was actually grease in the boot causing it to vibrate at speeds >65mph. I found this out the hard way because on the day of installation, the boot ripped while driving on the highway leaving a quarter-sized whole in the side of the boot. This threw grease all over my undercarriage but I was stratified in knowing that I not longer had a vibration until higher speeds (that I would not go anyway). However, recently (now about 2 months and <1,500 miles after installation) I was driving on the highway and the entire boot ripped apart and knocked an ABS sensor connector apart (no big deal since the connector just snapped back together but it was pretty scary for all of that to happen at 60-65mph). There could be underlying issues on my vehicle that would aid in the destruction of the boot but I can't think of anything that would cause that to happen. I will just be purch

Drive shaft virbrates at highway speed's, 45mph +, vibration can be felt and heard. Not sure if its because the shaft has no balancing weights or what but I will be returning.

Called my mechanic, he said the replacement drive shaft did not come with bolts, he used the old bolts. I believe they were standard bolts, shaft worked fine.

Why wouldn't this fit the 4.o motor jeep?
August 6, 2018
Lindo S

This part is listed to fit the 4.7L model, not the 4.0L model, due to vehicle design differences.

Is your jeep select drive or quadra drive ?

It may have a different transfer case. Here are the different transfer cases: nv-247 and the nv-242. The Nv-247 is paired with the quadra-trac 11 and the quadra drive which are full time 4wd systems. It also uses the cv type drive shaft. I do not think there is a difference in drive shaft with the 4.0 and 4.7 if it uses the nv 247 transfer case. It may differ with Select-trac which is paired with the nv242 4wd system. 4.0 uses the 242LD and the 4.7 uses the 242HD. I would recommend doing some research first.

This driveshaft has a specific length for a "quadra-drive" t-case and V8. The 4.0 shaft may be different length and may also have different couplers ie: Rzeppa / U-joint / etc. Unfortunately WJ's have several different driveshaft setups.

There are two different styles one has u joints the other has cv joints

Length is different due to the location of transfer case in relation to the front differential. 6 cylinder 4.0 is longer than the 4.7 V8, so the transfer case sits farther back in the vehicle.

We have the 4.7 V8 it was to long and could not switch the end cuz ours has the fine splins

Will this shaft work with the Quadra Drive system?
February 24, 2020
Willie B

Yes, quadradrive is inside the differential. Only thing that matters on the drive shaft is that you match the proper yoke to your jeep. Either CV style or repezza U joint.

Thank you for your inquiry! The fit of this specific product is not dependent on if the vehicle is or is not equipped with the Quadra Drive system. In order to confirm the fit of these parts you would need to know the engine size, the length of the OE shaft from weld to weld, as well as if the OE shaft was a CV joint style or U-Joint style. This particular product is specific to models with a V8 4.7L engine, has a 20 Inch measurement (weld to weld) and is also the CV Joint Style Design. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry. Actual Measurements are not listed or available. Our parts are exact replacements for your vehicle's OEM parts. As long as your year, make, and model match up with our listing, these parts will directly fit and function like the originals. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!.
