Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the third brake light on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. It's the same part and similar process on these Mountaineers from 2002 to 2010. The items you'll need for this are a new third brake light from 1AAuto.com and a Philips screwdriver.
Your third brake light is held on with two Philips screws. Just go ahead and remove those. Then, just pull the third brake light back and out, and pull your washer hose free. Then push the tab on this harness, and disconnect it.
On the bottom, is the old third brake light. Above it is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and will fit exactly the same. The end of this is dry and formed, and widened out, so I'm afraid it might leak. I'm just going to snip off the end. Replace those two Philips screws and tighten them up. Just test out the third brake light. You can see it works, so you're all set.

We have a ton more information on this truck as well as man other makes and models, and if you need this part for your vehicle, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com.Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
To remove the third brake light cover, we'll remove these two Phillips head screws. Once our two screws are out, reach underneath the lens. Carefully peel it up off of the car. Disconnect the hose here for the rear window washer, and the electrical connector at the end by pushing down and pulling it away.
To remove your rear window washer nozzle, simply take a small flat blade screwdriver, press down on one tab while pulling down with your finger. You'll see you get the gap there. Keep pulling down there, press in on the other side, and pull it out of your third brake light housing.
Take your new rear window washer nozzle, being sure that the spray end is facing down into the flat portion of our third tail light. Snap it back into place. Reconnect the electrical connector. The push tab faces into the back of the housing. Reconnect your rear window washer nozzle hose. Lay the cover back into place, and reinstall your two Phillips head screws.
Check for proper operation of your third brake light and rear window washer nozzle, and you're good to go.
Thanks for watching. Visit us at 1AAuto.com for quality auto parts, fast and free shipping and the best customer service in the industry.

Yes it does...On the picture, it is the black dot to the right of the lens. Of course your water tank is up front by the engine but this lens has the hose connection on the backside....Really easy to install...
