Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear hatch support struts on this 2002 Suburban, same as any 2000 to 2006 Suburban. These commonly go bad and your hatch won't stay up on its own. The only tools you'll need are new hatch support struts from 1AAuto.com and a small flat blade screwdriver - as well as someone or something to hold the hatch up.
These four struts are held in by little clips that you just pry out with a small flat blade screwdriver, here and there. You'll want something or someone to hold the hatch up while you pry out and pull off one end of the piston. Then, repeat that for the lower one pry out and pull off. We do always recommend you do this in pairs.
Put them back on, just make sure the clips are in place on your new ones, and press it on the top. You may need to lift up tailgate a little bit and press the bottom one off.
