In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and replace the hatch struts in a 2008 Chevy Equinox. Hatch struts being in good condition is very important for the safety of you and anyone else who works in and out of the trunk of your vehicle to make sure that that stays up and out of way and doesn't fall on you while you're trying to get things out of the back of your car.

Open the hatch on your vehicle. You may have to support it, if your hatch struts have already gone bad. These hatches aren't very heavy; however, when you remove the strut, they may want to come down so be sure to support the hatch while you remove the hood strut. Using a small, flat blade screwdriver, pry up on the tab on the back of the hatch strut. Don't have to remove this fully, but you do need to pop it out a good ways, though. Pop the end of the strut off. Repeat the same steps to remove the one on the bottom.
To install your new hatch strut, simply push the ball socket back into place on the bottom. You may have to move the strut itself or the hatch in order to get the top one to line up, and pop that into place as well.
