Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to should you how to replace the tailgate cables on this Nissan Frontier. It's the same process for any 2001 to 2004 Nissan Frontier. You can find new tailgate cables at 1AAuto.com. For this repair, you'll just need a small flat blade screwdriver, and a 12mm socket and ratchet or a wrench.
Begin by lowering your tailgate and locate the two straps on the left and right sides. Locate the two mounting points: first on the back of the truck, the other on the lower part of the tailgate.
We're going to relieve some of the pressure on that tailgate strap by lifting the tailgate with one hand and then resting it on my knee. Then I'm going to use the small flat blade screwdriver to pry up on that tab of the strap up so that it goes up and over the post. Now I'm going to use a 12mm socket wrench to remove the other end of the strap.
Here you see the old part up top, as well as the new parts from 1A Auto. They're direct replacements.
Now take your new strap and put the bolt through. Notice the way it's going to go with the tab on top facing in, so that means your bolt is going to go through on the outside. Then go ahead and put a washer, and then the retaining washer. So it's a bolt through, then a washer, then a retaining washer.
Install the new strap and bolt, and tighten it up with your 12mm socket wrench. Take the other end of your strap, put a big portion of that notch over the post, and then pull down so that the retaining string (or clip) secures it. Here's a shot of your new cable installed part from 1A Auto.
We hope this video helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that's here for you on the Internet and in person.
