January 5th 2008 was a great day in Boston MA · 192 days ago

January 5th 2008 was a great day in Boston MA. No it wasn’t 80 degrees in the dead of winter and I didn’t win the lottery but I did meet Thomas Arcese. Ok, so your scratching your head and thinking, who is that? Well I’m going tell you just who this guy is.

My Green Monster and Me · 223 days ago

Susie, Irene, Stacey, Martha, or the infamous Christine; if you have ever met a car enthusiast like myself, you know that we name all of our cars. We refer to them as “she”, “he” “him” or “her”, as if our cars are actually human, and frankly, that is because they are….sort-of.

1966 GTO, The Tin Indian Story. Part 4 · 295 days ago

First the engines rev and resound followed quickly by the screaming, smoky black incense of burnout as each car exits the staging area and prepares to pull up to the line. Each of these older, rear wheel drive Pontiacs typically spun their rear wheels and tires, either regular tread or treadless slicks, for a few seconds to clean and heat them, increasing their sticking, otherwise known as traction, potential.

1966 GTO, The Tin Indian Story. Part 3 · 296 days ago

Merle thought that he knew exactly where the car was. The kid from whom he had originally bought the green car had told him that it was once the fastest GTO on the east coast, and he had thought, “Yeah, sure,” and proceeded on his way. Knafel had raced more than one GTO in 1966. But still, whereabouts unknown? Perhaps not.

1966 GTO, The Tin Indian Story. Part 2 · 297 days ago

Then came the big shock. I knew and even began to regret that I might never drive the little green car again. The advent of Pontiac Historic Services had made it possible for Merle to trace the origin of my little GTO.

1966 GTO, The Tin Indian Story. Part 1 · 300 days ago

Over time multitudes of parts have baked in my oven, soaked in my sink and otherwise passed through our home and our lives. In particular, some of those parts implemented the restoration of quite a car, a 1966 GTO rescued from a field near Dover, DE, — an authentic Tin Indian by name and by trademark. Since my husband and I are approaching retirement, it is time for the Tin Indian and all its parts to take a new journey. They are headed for the Mecum Auction in St. Charles, IL, on October 6, 2007.

A Few People That I Would Like to Meet... · 316 days ago

There are so many great car builders, collectors, designers and racers out there that I would love to meet. You can’t flip the TV stations these days without seeing one of Jay Leno’s spectacular Duesenbergs, Chip Foose’s meticulously assembled Hotrods, a Troy Trepanier built land-speed car, or John Force going 330mph down the quarter mile.

We have all done some stupid things... · 328 days ago

My cat Malibu and I were recently reading the latest issue of HotRod Magazine when it was too hot outside to actually do something productive. One of the editors was describing some of the unlucky automotive related events that have happened to him over the years. Some were admittedly his fault, and others were beyond his control. So I began to reminisce myself on some of my own “misfortunes”.

Deep Woods Extreme 4x4 Fun · 339 days ago

I want to share with you a little about how extreme these guys get. Here goes, independently adjustable air shocks at all 4 corners to assist articulation, 4 wheel steering, independent front and rear braking to lock differentials to manipulate over or around obstacles, 38-44” tires, full tube chassis and roll cages, Rockwell military axles. These are just a few things to wet your appetite.

My 1964 Chevy Impala Convertible, 10 Years Over Due. · 356 days ago

While leaving a cruise night last week, I found myself behind a 1964 Chevy Impala SS hardtop for most of my ride home. It was an amazingly beautiful car in every way, and yet, it hurt me to look at it.
