The Chevrolet Cavalier was Chevy's compact car entry for over 20 years. Originally designed to compete with imports like the Honda accord, the Chevy Cavalier became one of the most popular American produced compact vehicles. In the 2000's the Cavalier was one of GM's top selling cars, having sold over 5,000,000 cars by 1999. The Cavalier was released in 1981, built on GM's J-body front wheel drive platform. Its success was due in part to its low price tag, good gas mileage, and sporty styling. The Chevrolet Cavalier featured three generations of revisions each with different trim models. Some trim options include LS, LS Sport, VL, Type 10, and more. Interestingly, the Chevrolet Cavalier was also marketed in Japan by Toyota. According to an agreement between Toyota and GM, a Cavalier would be sold as the Toyota Cavalier. Besides being right hand drive, it also had power folding rear mirrors, different taillights, and other alterations. Production of the cavalier ended in 2005, being replaced by the stylish new Chevy Cobalt.
