For over 35 years the full-size luxury Buick Riviera delighted American drivers everywhere. From 1963 to 1999 the Riviera provided drivers with a stylish, classy ride. Born in the muscle car era, the Buick Riviera sported some serious power. 401 in³ or 425 in³ Buick V8's were the Riviera power plants pumping out over 300 hp. As time went on the Riviera grew larger, sporting a new 455 in³ engine capable of over 350 horsepower. However, once the 70's came, performance went out the window as emissions regulations choked the life out of American muscle cars. The Riviera evolved and focused more on the automobile luxury aspects. The size of the car shrunk and the styling reflected the times, sleek curves became angular lines and the distinctive roof was cut down, mirroring more traditional vehicles. This worked well however as the Buick Riviera was named Motor Trend's car of the year for 1979. During the 80's the regal was updated with advanced technology such as touch screen monitors and a further redesigned exterior. 1999 was the final model year for the Buick Riviera. The final 200 Riviera's produced were custom painted and designated the "Silver Arrow" Riviera.
