What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

I am always working on something and when I got the chance to work on the H2 front suspension I was eager to tackle it. I looked around my city with the normal places to look for some hubs. (Oreilly's, auto zone, Napa, and advanced auto. Because I had the time and could wait a couple of days I decided to go with old faithful. 1a Auto parts worked out great. Not only did I buy hubs, but also half shafts and tie rods. The part was easy to install, just remember to buy some grease and some Loctite. Shoot me some questions if you need help

Not long lasting
I purchased these a year ago, had them professionally installed and assumed I was good to go for years to come. One of these bearings began to fail after 8k miles, the other is beginning to fail now after 33k miles. I should have paid more to begin with for better after market bearings.

So far, so good...
I bought the pair of wheel bearing/hub assemblies for my 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Only the passenger side on my truck was bad but I went ahead and bought the pair. The price for both was cheaper than I could get just one anywhere else and I was a little skeptical but took a chance and I'm glad I did. My husband replaced the passenger side with no issues and a few weeks later, on our way across state, the other side blew out and thankfully I had the other bearing at home nearby that I purchased so I didn't have to spring for another one. Both replacement bearings are doing great and installed super easy (just ask my hubby who had to do it on the side of the highway!). Unbeatable price and going strong for about a month now, so...so far so good.

Will these work on a 2003 gmc 3500 4wd duallie?
Phil B on Nov 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these will work.
I realized that even though these pair of bearings fit 2WD & 4WD, my truck is 2WD but the bearing hub is set for 4WD. What do I do with the splined hole through the bearing? There is no cap to protect the back of the rotating bearing! Is this accepted and won't the bearing wear out faster getting wet and dirty?!?!?!?!?
Donald M on Feb 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If these hubs list to fit your vehicle you simply do not need to use the spindle. This should not wear out the bearing any faster than one with a cap.
The hub's do have speed sensors built in correct?
Maurice T on Nov 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Come to think of if. It absolutely has the sensors built in.
I was looking at the pair of front wheel bearing and hubs assembly for my 2006 Chevy Silverado 4x4. I saw part#1ASHS00043 for $150.95. Are these new or used?
Lowell M on Jun 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are new bearings, but these list to fit a 2006 Silverado 1500 HD. Do you have a regular 1500 (6 lug) or an HD model (8 lugs)? If you have 6 lug wheels then you would want to purchase 1ASHS00002.
Will this fit a 04 2500 4wd 6.0 chevy Silverado?
Tracy W on Feb 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Tracy, They fit my 06 2500 4 WD 6.6 chevy silverado. I don't believe that chevy made any changes to the front end from 04 to 06 so it should fit perfectly. I replaced both of my bearing packages L/H and R/H a couple of years ago and no problems since then. Alex
Why do you not specify between Silverado 3500 4x4 dually and single wheel rear 9000 and 12000 pound rear on a 2005 model year?
Ron W on May 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: These hubs fit a lot of vehicles and you can see the complete fit list by clicking the 'VIEW MORE' link under the fit list. Please see the vehicles you were asking about below. Thanks!

Do you sell ones with larger ABS sensor wires for lifted trucks?
Dogdog on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I think you mean longer wires if so I don't no but my son truck has 44 inch tires and they were fine if that helps you. we were going to cut off old plug and go to junk yard and cut the other end to make longer if we needed to but it worked out fine. hope this helped you
