    This video features the lower control arm replacement as part of an entire front end overhaul. Some instructions may be unnecessary but are included for continuity with the video

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:06)
    • Partially raise the vehicle off the ground
    • Loosen the 21 mm lug nuts
    • Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Replace one lug nut loosely
    • Hammer the tire from the back side if the wheel is stuck
    • Remove the last lug nut and the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Strut Assembly (1:18)
    • Apply rust penetrant to all nuts and bolts in the work area
    • Remove the two 10 mm bolts securing the ABS wire
    • Disconnect the ABS wire electrical connector
    • Remove the upper control arm castle nut retaining clip
    • Loosen the 17 mm upper control arm castle nut
    • Hammer the upper knuckle at the ball joint mounting point to loosen the ball joint stud
    • Remove the 17 mm upper control arm castle nut
    • Remove the strut tower cap and bolt protectors
    • Remove the 14 mm strut mounting nuts with a 14 mm deep socket
    • Remove the 12 mm nut and bolt securing the sway bar link to the sway bar
    • Remove the sway bar link from the sway bar
    • Remove the 17 mm nut securing the sway bar link to the lower control arm
    • Hammer the sway bar link out of the lower control arm
    • Remove the 19 mm nut from the 17 mm through bolt that secures the lower strut to the lower control arm bracket
    • Remove the 17 mm through bolt by tapping it out with a hammer and punch
    • Remove the strut assembly
  3. step : Removing the Knuckle (9:57)
    • Remove the 14 mm brake caliper slider bolts
    • Remove the brake caliper and secure it with a caliper hanger
    • Remove the 17 mm bolts securing the brake caliper bracket to the knuckle
    • Remove the brake caliper bracket
    • Remove the outer tie rod castle nut retaining pin
    • Remove the 17 mm outer tie rod castle nut
    • Remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle, using a hammer to loosen it if necessary
    • Remove the two 17 mm bolts securing the knuckle to the lower ball joint assembly
    • Remove the knuckle
  4. step : Removing the Lower Control Arm (15:12)
    • Remove the cotter pin from the lower ball joint stud
    • Loosen the 19 mm ball joint castle nut
    • Loosen the lower ball joint with a pickle fork, or hammer blows to the lower control arm
    • Remove the castle nut and lower ball joint
    • Remove the 17 mm bolt securing the lower control arm bracket
    • Remove the 10 mm bolt securing the plastic shielding near the lower control arm inner joint
    • Make a reference mark on the alignment nut and washer at the lower control arm joint
    • Remove the two 19 mm bolts securing the lower control arm to the support arm
    • Remove the 19 mm nut from the 21 mm through bolt securing the control arm at the inner joint
    • Remove the 21 mm through bolt
    • Remove the lower control arm
  5. step : Installing the Lower Control Arm (31:02)
    • Apply copper anti-seize on the inner end of the control arm through bolt and thread locker to the outer threads
    • Install the lower control arm with the 21 mm through bolt and one of the 19 mm support arm bolts
    • Replace the through bolt alignment washer and the 19 mm nut and torque it to 127 ft-lb
    • Replace the two 19 mm support arm bolts
    • Replace the lower strut bracket on the lower control arm with the 17 mm bolt
    • Install the sway bar link through bolt into the lower control arm
    • Replace the 19 mm nut on sway bar link through bolt
  6. step : Replacing the Strut Assembly (36:35)
    • Install the three strut tower bolts though the strut tower
    • Replace the three 14 mm strut mount nuts and torque them to 41 ft-lb
    • Replace the strut tower bolt protectors and the strut tower cover
    • Apply anti-seize to the lower strut through bolt
    • Replace the lower strut through bolt
    • Replace the 19 mm nut to the 17 mm through bolt and torque it to 116 ft-lb
    • Replace the sway bar link in the sway bar
    • Replace the 12 mm sway bar link nut and bolt
  7. step : Replacing the Knuckle (42:33)
    • Replace the lower ball joint into the knuckle
    • Replace the two 17 mm bolts securing the lower ball joint to the knuckle
    • Install the lower ball joint stud into the lower control arm
    • Torque the 21 mm lower ball joint castle nut to 83 ft-lb
    • Install the lower ball joint cotter pin
    • Replace the upper control arm ball joint into the knuckle
    • Replace the 17 mm upper ball joint castle nut and torque it to 64 ft-lb
    • Install the upper ball joint castle nut cotter pin
    • Replace the two 10 mm bolts securing the ABS wire
    • Reconnect the ABS electrical connector
    • Replace the outer tie rod into the knuckle
    • Install the tie rod castle nut
    • Replace the caliper bracket with the 17 mm mounting bolts
    • Torque the 17 mm bolts to 87 ft-lb
    • Install the brake pads into the caliper bracket
    • Replace the brake pad anti-rattle clips
    • Optionally apply a small amount of brake crease to the brake caliper surfaces that contact the pads for additional sound dampening
    • Replace the brake caliper with the 14 mm caliper bolts
    • Torque the 14 mm caliper bolts to 25 ft-lb
    • Tighten the tie rod castle nut and torque it to 64 ft-lb if possible
    • Replace the wheel and torque the lug nuts to 76 ft-lb
  8. step : Replacing the Wheel (51:59)
    • Slide the wheel onto the wheel studs
    • Replace the 5 lug nuts and tighten them by hand with a 21 mm socket
    • Partially lower the vehicle
    • Torque the lug nuts in a star pattern to 76 ft-lb
    • Lower the vehicle completely
