Replacing Intake Manifold on a 2000 Grand Marquis

July 9, 2017
Had to replace the intake manifold on my year 200 Grand Marquis. Although I've never "tackled" this kind of repair, was able to the job in 3 1/2 to 4 hours. This time did not include cleaning all of the gunk from the cylinder heads. Found the instruction easy to follow and am extremely satisfied. Price was great and delivery right on schedule. Will buy other products from 1AAUTO if need arises.

Thanks for the chance to give you my input on this product it was a perfect fit for my Lincoln Town car,it came with everything I needed and installation was easier than I thought it would be. The price was half what the local parts store charged and the car runs better than it ever did! I'll be a customer from now on for everything I need in the future. Thanks again 1A Auto.W.Milot

Although I am not a mechanic, I would recommend the manifold as it was the best priced and I haven't had any issues since purchasing.

No issues when installing this into the vehicle, more time was actually spent on cleanup and getting little things to replace old OEM Ford parts that had failed outside of this kit! On top of that, the part shipped fast, at a fair cost considering the weight! Everything seems very durable, like it will last for a long time. If you're stuck on whether to order from here through 1A, or another competitor, stop waiting, you've found your part!

The part worked but there were a few issues. The new alternator bracket needed to be bent to fit properly, and also needed two of its holes drilled out larger. The throttle body holes on the manifold were not deep enough to use the original bolts, so I used the old plastic spacer. A1 advertised a metal coolant crossover, but the base of each side of the crossover is still plastic where it meets the heads. The worst part is that the included thermostat failed in the closed position after driving about 150 miles, so you probably want to get a better one that will fail open. I just put the original thermostat back in. Also the point where the radiator hose gooseneck meets the new manifold is not a great fit, so be prepared to use some form a gasket because the included oring will not do the job. It was nice having the orings that meet the cylinder heads integrated into the new manifold. The reason I ordered this one was that it was the cheapest available.
Intake Manifold better than prior designs

Arrived 2 days after purchase and took only a few hours to install. It was the perfect replacement for the factory part that failed due to age and typical wear. The instructions were simple and with the linked video showing the work done, I was able to successfully get my Town Car back on the road working better than before the repair.

I bought it to replace the factory stock intake manifold, this seems to be better quality than factory. The part of the manifold that is a common problem with cracking due to being plastic on stock is made of metal on this replacement. The installation video was a big help in being able to this ourselves

I found 1AAuto.com by searching on YouTube for how to replace an intake manifold on a Crown Vic. Watched 1A's video and was impressed. Researched elsewhere online, looked at different part suppliers, and settled on A1. • Low enough retail price for a new part. I was not interested in tracking down and salvaging a used part, nor paying a premium for new OEM. A1's part actually turned out to be both the best-reviewed and lowest-priced of parts that I was interested in. • Clean, well-organized webpage for the part. Readily offered all the documentation that I sought: detailed description, high-resolution product photos, FAQ, vehicle fit, reviews, part # of similar part from other manufacturers. • Installation video. Gained much of my confidence in A1 from the video. Clear, straight-to-the-point demonstration. Made this in-driveway DIY repair possible for me. Well done, A1. I used part #1AEIM00010 as recommended for a 1999 Crown Vic and it has been working great. Note

I am a novice mechanic and was afraid to try to replace an intake manifold on a 1999 Grand Marquis. The Video was so good that I ordered the part and was able to install it with very little trouble. I have ordered several parts for 1AAuto and have never been disappointed, and have recommended them to others. Thanks, Carl

I really have no complaints outside of the fact the part was defective. Shipping was fast, all the brackets and extra bolts were there exactly as in the pictures. The car ran poorly and after a smoke test it was determined that it had a major leak in one of the seams. The car is a DD so it had to be fixed immediately. Purchased a Dorman from a local source and sent it on its way. I explained to customer service the issue and was refunded the price no questions asked, no need to return the intake. Typically I'd run into problems with other suppliers because the part had been installed and they usually try to blame it on installation error. Those past experiences had me worried. It didn't happen here and for that reason I will buy parts from here in the future. Defects sometimes happen and I'm glad they believed me. I'd give 5 stars if it was for the customer service alone.

The new intake manifold fit perfect on my 4.6L V8. The only thing that didn’t was the alternator bracket. It came with one that was similar but the holes didn’t line up. Other than that, it works perfect!

I bought my used in 2001. Some had broken the plastic thermostat housing on the antifreeze crossover. It started leaking last winter. I made a repair to stop the leak. Several months later it started leaking again. This time it needed to be done right. I thought this would be a difficult repair. Thanks to the design of this manifold it was a piece of cake. Cleaned up the heads well and dropped it in. No leaks vaccuum or antifreeze. You will notice design change in the in coming air routed. I don't know if it improves airflow but it gives the engine a deeper sound. Not louder but deeper.
Great fit

So far this replacement manifold is doing good. Easy to put on and no need to worry about any gaskets. Have to say the 1A video showing how to replace was honestly the most clear and thorough auto video I've seen so far. Was replaced in a couple of hours.
Fit pretty well
John
November 5, 2019
Overall it fit pretty well and the only issue was that some of the threaded mounting holes on top of the manifold, where other parts bolted on, didn't seem to be tapped all the way or not very well and I felt like bolts weren't going to go all the way in or bind up and strip. They all ended up tightening up but I was a bit worried as I was tightening.

I have owed my 2000 crown victoria for the last 3 years, I lost my father in 2018 around this time. This car was the last thing we worked on together, the car recently had a coolant leak. I tried everything to quick fix, as this is my only means of transportation. I ordered the upper intake manifold and a new radiator. With the help of A1 DIY, I successfully replaced both the manifold and radiator. Check engine light turned off and I’m back on the road before it snows.

I love, love, looove 1A! I only buy vehicles that are old enough I can work on and new enough with modern comforts. When I'm looking at a vehicle to possibly purchase, I pull up 1A Auto to determine if the purchase will be worth it. I sometimes may later regret the purchase because of hidden issues, but 1A makes it worth it in the end. Thanks 1A for making life so much easier!

Far better experience with 1aauto, there's nothing to complain about, will see how it holds up to test of time, fit and finish just like OEM, long runners, ( you retain torque at low rpm ) with redesigned intakes less power, these engine's don't rev high, 5k rpm shift point, just stay with OEM design.

Not being a mechanic and using the 1A Auto video I was able to uninstall the old leaking intake manifold and install the new one purchased from 1A Auto.I did have to remove the windshield wipers and plastic wiper motor tub with the wiper motor in order to access the rear bolts to remove the fuel rail heat shield on the driver side of the engine. I also had to use the new alternator mount shown in the left bottom corner of the picture just above the thermostat.image. Wish the instruction described where the various silver colored spacers go. I ended up only using the largest spacer to raise the bolt that is used to secure the left side of the air intake assembly by the left side of the alternator bracket.I did not use the 2 smaller silver colored spacers. I think they might be intended for the thermostat top that gets bolted down. to the new thermostat housing..I don't like the fact that the 10 provided screws secure parts directly into plastic holes on the new intake manifold. There
Great product!

Greatly improved the performance of my vehicle, the aluminum crossover greatly improved the temperature flow and the built in gaskets are a good way to seal the air up tight.
Seems like a quality part

Very pleased with this intake. Better quality than original due to the aluminum crossover. I have put about 1000 miles on in a short period and have had no problems.

All of the gaskets are included, so you don't have to buy them separately. They are needed when you put the part in though (in case that was your question).

Your ad says it replaces a Dorman 615-178. Who manufactures this manifold? Thank you.

We have a few different aftermarket companies build these parts specifically for us, as our 1A Auto house brand. They are manufactured to the same OEM specifications as the original part that came with your vehicle. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I can't remember the manufacturer but it was an exact replacement for the 4.6L engine and installation was straightforward.

I have a question. When I installed the intake I didn’t see instructions on how the new brackets for the alternator were to mount. I have finished the install and my alternator does not line up?

Included in the bag of hardware was a square black block (spacer)? Please identify

I just checked the bag of extra parts I had from that project. There is a small black plastic piece with four holes in it. It was not needed to install the manifold on a grand marquis. There were a few extra parts in the kit I got to install it. Also don't be surprised if you have to bend the new bracket for the alternator. Or possibly drill the holes out larger. Good luck!
