How to Replace Wheel Bearing Hub 99-06 Chevy Silverado 1500

Learn how to replace your own wheel hubs on your 00-06 Chevy Silverado or Suburban or GMC Sierra or Yukon. In this video, the expert mechanics at 1A Auto will show you how to replace a hub that's vibrating, groaning or loose.

  1. step 1 : Removing the Wheel
    • Loosen the lug nut covers with a 22mm socket
    • Pry off the center cap with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step 2 : Removing the Caliper Bracket
    • Remove the T55 Torx bolts from the caliper
    • Use either a C-clamp to squeeze the caliper to push the caliper piston in
    • Remove the caliper
    • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Use a piece of pipe and ratchet to remove two 18mm bolts from the caliper bracket
    • Slide the rotor off

  3. For the third step, if you do not have air tools you can either loosen the center hub nut before you take your brakes apart by having somebody hold the brakes, or you can use a large bar, put it between the lug studs to hold it, and break the bar.

    step 3 : Removing the Hub
    • Disconnect the ABS harness from the frame and steering spindle by removing the clips
    • Pry off the center hub cap using a flat blade screw driver and hammer
    • Remove the 36mm center hub nut with an impact wrench and air blow gun
    • Remove the three 15mm hub bolts with two 15mm wrenches
    • Twist the hub nut a quarter of the way
    • And hammer from the back of the hub
    • Remove the hub nut and pull the hub out
  4. step 4 : Installing the New Hub
    • Place the backing plate onto the hub
    • Push the hub back into place
    • Insert and tighten the 15mm hub bolts
    • Torque the 15mm hub bolts to 75 ft/lbs
    • Remove the clip and feed the ABS harness back into place
    • Replace the clips and brackets to the ABS harness
    • Replace center hub nut and washer
    • Tighten the center hub nut
  5. step 5 : Replacing the Caliper Bracket
    • Place the rotor on the hub
    • Twist a lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Put the caliper on
    • Replace and tighten the 18mm bolts
    • Torque the 18mm bolts to 75 ft/lbs
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket, tapping lightly with a hammer
    • Grease the caliper bolts
    • Place the caliper onto the bracket
    • Replace and tighten the T55 Torx bolts
    • Torque the bolts to 30 ft/lbs
  6. step 6 : Reinstalling the Wheel
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the 22mm bolts
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft/lbs in a crossing or star pattern
    • Torque the center hub nut to a 125 ft/lbs
    • Reattach the center cap
  7. step 7 : Testing the Brakes
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle

The parts were an exact fit. My suggestion, go ahead and order new rotors, pads and calipers. My worked fine before, but siezed after compreessing the pistons. Easier to just replace all of while you're in there and have everything disassembled.

The original issues on my 2002 Chevy Avalanche were Anti-locking breaks failing at low speed and a humming noise from the front end. The parts arrived on time in good condition. They fit perfectly and resolved both the ABS problem and the humming noise is gone. The only issue I had was with the threads on one hole of one of the wheel hub assembly. The threads didn’t look damaged but the bolt wouldn’t go in further than two turns. Running the correct Tap through the hole resolved the problem and I only lost 5 minutes. For a DIY guy like myself I like the kit idea. I will definitely be using 1A in the future.

This was a great value and the perfect kit for my job. I was sure the driver hub bearing was going out on my truck. I thought to change the cv shaft as it was 18 yrs old. Did the drivers side after watching video on YouTube. Went in great, but ended up being the passenger side. Did the passenger the next day with cv shaft. Parts look solid and like the OEM.

Received orders. I noticed one box was damaged. On a later date when I was going to install all parts I opened all boxes and one Cv axle was pretty well damaged. Call 1A told them what happened and they send another Cv axle the following week . that's service . now waiting for time to try to install parts.

My 2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 has 255,00 miles on it. Every little bump made my truck feel like it was going to fall apart + the steering was loose. All my tie rods and vall joints were leaking from I don't know when. I ordered new axels, hubs, tie rods, upper control arms, lower ball joints, stabilizers, pitman arm, idler arm, swaybar bushings & lower control arm stops. I took my time working on it couple hours after work . About a week. since I was down there I cleaned up old oils and grim under the truck. Fortunately my current job gives me a vehicle to drive, otherwise I would have to get it done over a weekend. Pitman arm was difficult to remove but everything else was straight forward. Videos were helpful. Only wish all parts came with grease fittings and torque specs. But all and all my truck drives much better, feels safer. I would recommend buing from these guys. Price and quality are good.

My mechanic said these parts fit perfect, and no issues during installation. On my end everthing appears to to be working perfectly. Did take a few days for the coated rotors to wear in, as expected. Now have a 2003 mini van I need to get running again. Will be ordering all parts needed from 1A Auto. Delivery was on time and fast. As usual 1A Auto comes through with the best pricing and free shipping (which their competitors (Rock Auto) don't. Was delivered promptly and cured my RH Half shaft issue (clicking ratcheting). Figured I'd just replace everything at the price 1A had them at.. Why do half the job and then have to do the other half at a later date.. Been buying all y replacement parts for all my vehicles (Ford and GM) from 1A. Bought a new set of door handles (to replace broken ones) and their how to video's are excellent plus they give the recommended torque values in their video's, a great help. I recommend them.

My 2007 classic 1500 4x4 which is the same as your 2005 has a Rough Country torsion lift and these CV axles and hub assemblies went on flawlessly and the alignment afterwards went great. You’ll need a new stabilizer link kit though. I had to cut both mine off to get the CV axles out. Good luck.
