Mazda broke into the US in 1970, exporting vehicles equipped with the rotary engine which outperformed typical piston engines. However, financial troubles led to ford taking a 25% stake in the company. The Mazda RX-7 was released in 1979 and would be a favorite for several years providing high powered performance driving.
