Large, roomy, powerful, just a few of the words used to describe the Ford Bronco. Produced from 1966 to 1996, the Bronco spawned five generations of SUV's, each more impressive than the last. The original Broncos, produced until the second generation's release in 1978 were compact SUV's similar in nature to Jeep Wranglers. In '78 the Bronco was redesigned and placed on a truck platform. The larger Bronco now held 351 in³ or 400 in³ V8 engines, giving the SUV a bit more muscle. Out of concern for rising gasoline prices, the Bronco shrunk in size and its powerful V8's were replaced by straight 6's to help with fuel economy during the 3rd gen. Fuel Injection was standard for the 4th generation, improving engine efficiency and power, but otherwise the Bronco remained relatively unchanged. The 5th and final generation of Bronco's lasted until '96 with safety and comfort the focus this time around. Crumple Zones, passenger seat belts, and airbags were implemented. In 1997 the Ford Bronco was replaced by the newer, flashy Ford Expedition SUV. After 30 years of service the Ford Bronco was retired, though Bronco owners still swear by their favorite SUV.
