Andy points out the 5 most frequent problems with the Chrysler 300, as reported by mechanics across the country. He also offers suggestions on how to resolve these problems yourself!
In this video we're going over the top five problems on this second generation Chrysler 300.
There is nothing wrong with this vehicle. All vehicles have their problems. These are the top five that we have found.
Number one. The window regulator and motor. You may find that one of the windows doesn't work, whether it's stuck up, or you roll it down and then it doesn't go back up. The most common problem for that is the regulator and the motor. Now, that's inside the door. What you have to do is take the door panel off. And inside the door panel you're going to see the regulator and the motor. And that's going to be the same on all the other doors as well. It's not more common to have one of the windows fail versus another one.
Number two. A squeak in the steering column while turning the wheel back and forth. You may notice while you're driving the vehicle and you turn the wheel, at the base of the steering column you actually hear a squeak type noise. What it actually is is the lower steering shaft seal. If you remove this kick panel underneath here, you can see the steering shaft going through the firewall. On that steering shaft there is actually a seal, and that seal gets dry and causes the squeak noise. So if you lubricate that seal, your squeak noise should go away.
Number three. Transmission shifting problems. You may notice that in between gear changes a rough shift or even a stutter. There is actually a program update for this concern. What you're going to have to do is go to the dealer or to a shop that can actually program vehicles.
Number four. Carbon buildup on the valves. You may notice that you have a check engine light on, and it's probably flashing. That because you have a misfire in a P0300 code. And the common cause for this is the carbon buildup on the valves. This happens to a lot of vehicles, especially ones that are direct injected. They have actually updated the valve spring retainers to prevent this problem, so those would need to be replaced, and then you're good to go.
Number five. Odor in the heating and air conditioning system. You may notice a musty odor coming from the heating and air conditioning system, and most of the time it will happen after using the air conditioner. The reason for this, moisture builds up on the evaporative core and causes that odor. The fix for this, Dodge actually came up with a cleaner disinfectant coating that goes on the evaporative core, and that will fix your problem.
