How to Replace Third Brake Light 2010-14 Volkswagen GTI

How to install, repair, fix, change or replace a broken, damaged, burned out, cracked, faded, cloudy or chipped third, high mount tail light / brake light on 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 Volkswagen GTI.

  1. step 1 :Removing Light Assembly
    • Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the two lower clips out
    • Pry the light assembly from the top
    • Pull out to remove it
  2. step 2 :Disconnecting the Assembly
    • Use the flat blade screwdriver to pry and disconnect the electrical connector
  3. step 3 :Reinstalling the Assembly
    • Reconnect the electrical connector
    • Line up the assembly
    • Push it in, click it in place
    • Push in the two tabs to lock it in place

Now we're gonna remove the third brake light assembly. These two silver tabs, you're gonna take a flat blade tool. You're gonna get two clicks. And then after that you're gonna go in right here, pry down, slide out.

And to take the connector off, take your tool again until it clicks and you can slide it right out.

You're gonna reinstall. Click this connector in. Want to slide it in. Line it up and listen for the click. You're gonna line these two tabs up to the hole. When it's lined up then you just push up. And you can push these two clips up. And that's it.
