How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a damaged, worn out, faulty or shorted rear power window switch on 08 Subaru Outback
Flat Blade Screwdriver
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Trim Tool Set
Hi, I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
In this video, we'll be removing and installing a rear window switch in the 2018 Subaru outback. Now we're going to take this driver's rear door panel off. We're going to start by pulling this panel off. Take a flat blade tool. There we go. That's three clips right there. Pulled it off. Next, we're going to pull this one off, we're gonna pry it down a little bit. There's a little tab right there, and it pulls out. Straight and up.
Next, we're going to use a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull these three screws out. Start with this bottom one. Pull this last screw out.
Next, we're going to use some of our trim tools. We sell these at 1AAuto.com. I'm going to grab it from the inside, and there's push pins, so we're going to push, and use the trim tools to pry the pushpins out. Pull up on the door panel.
Next, we're going to disconnect this connector. This is a little push lock. Push down on the lock, and it pulls right out, and disconnect the cables to go to the inner door latch and lock. So there's a cover right here. You're going to pull up on the cover. I'm going to grab the lower cable, pull it out, twist, and pull them all out. We're gonna do the same for the other, twist and pull them all out.
Now the door panels are ready to just come off. Take these two Phillips head screws out. We'll take, you're going to flip it up, pull it off, there's your switch.
Now we gotta cut this felt tape. We're gonna use a straight blade screwdriver. Just go all around the sides, peel it back. So after you peel most of that tape off on the front and the rear, there's two retainers. You're gonna push in between that with your flat blade tool, and then same with the back side, and pull it right out.
Now I'm gonna put it back in. You're gonna take your window switch, just slide it back down until it locks in place. Now you're going to watch this channel. It's going to go right there, slip that over there to line up the holes. Take your Phillips head screws, screw it down.
Now we're gonna reinstall. We're gonna start with the cables. We're going to start with the small one. This one's actually the lock. Get that ball in and through the slot. We're gonna slide that down the slot. We're gonna take this other ball, this is for the handle part. We're gonna put it in that hole. Slide this down that slot. Sometimes you gotta wiggle it a little bit. There we go. Then we should put the cover down.
Next we're gonna take the connector for the window switch, and we're gonna slide it in, lock it in. You're going to slide this groove up top near the window first, push it down, and align these clips in. Give it a little push.
Next we're going to insert these Phillips head screws with our Phillips head screwdriver. And the next one. And the last one.
Next, we're gonna put this trim piece on. Line it up down below, just push.
Next, we're going to install this trim piece. Get it lined up, and push so it locks in place.
