If the trunk on your Chrysler Sebring is not staying up properly, then you'll probably want to replace your trunk supports and we're going to do that for you on this 2004 Sebring. It' s a pretty basic repair. You'll just need new trunk support pistons from 1AAuto.com and a flat blade screwdriver.
Now when you pop the trunk, when you go to lift it up, it should just lift automatically not just keep falling like that, but you can see the only way to get it to stay is to push it all the way back. Replacing them is pretty basic, a small flat blade screwdriver, there's a little slot that allows you access in between the head of the piston and that clip. Pry the clip out and pull on the piston. You usually want to pry that piston out about an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. You see the bottom comes off and then repeat the same process for the top. Best thing is to have a friend or helper holding the trunk up for you while you're doing this. New pistons from 1A Auto, you can see on the right exactly the same. It's going to fit in there correctly and do a whole lot better job holding up that trunk lid. Now you just line up the holes on the piston and push them right into place. Now we're going to replace the one on the other side and you can see it's identical, same process. Now when you pop your trunk and you just lift the hood up a little bit, it opens up the rest of the way by itself and that's how it should be.
