Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly: that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we will be showing you how to replace the hood struts on this Buick Century. It's the same as many front drive vehicles like the Grand Prix, and LeSabre. All you need is a small screwdriver.
These hood support struts are a pretty easy do-it-yourself item. You can see here, you just take a screwdriver and you pry this clip out. You pry the clip out, while you pull on the hood and obviously you have something else supporting your hood. You can see, once I take that support out, the hood won't stay up on its own. With an assistant holding it up, or your piece of wood that you use to hold the hood up anyway, you just do the same thing on the lower clip. I'm having a little bit of trouble here. For some reason the clip just doesn't want to let go.
At 1A Auto, our struts are of the same length and the same compression. Then, obviously, to put them back in, make sure your clips are in the right spot. Just press it on and then press it on.
