How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a weak or sagging hood or hatch strut on 09 Honda CRV
Hi, I’m Mike from 1A Auto. We’ve been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
Open the hatch. If your hatch struts are weak, you can get brand new ones from 1AAuto.com. They're identical to the originals. These don't have left and right because the top can swivel. They can be used on either side. You should replace them in pairs. The original ones are solid, so there's a left and right to them, but since these are set up, they can be used universally for both right and left.
Pop this one off and change it out. Take a small, flatbladed screwdriver. Unlock the lock by just kind of prying it up, just like that. We're going to do the bottom one too. Now, when you pull one of these off, if you don't already have somebody helping you hold this hatch up, you should get someone to help you hold it or at least make sure that you can do this one-handed because there hatches are very heavy. I'm going to pop this off, and the one strut is not going to be enough to hold it. Take it right off the ball mount right there. Pop it off of here and pop this one on.
You don't have to move the lock, just pop it on, just like that. Line up this one here. Get lined up. I'm going to switch hands. Get it lined up in the opening. Pop it on like that. The other side will be exactly the same. That's okay if it comes off. You don't need to reuse it. Pull the hatch up. It's going to be a little tricky. You can turn them a little bit and line up. Push it on. The job is complete.
