How to Replace Front Door Latch 2014-19 Chevy Silverado

How to replace the front door latch on 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 Chevy Silverado

  1. step 1 :Removing the Front Door Panel
    • Turn off the dome light
    • Remove the trim door behind the door handle with a pick
    • Remove the trim door from the door pull with a pick
    • Pull out the trim panel along the door pull and master switch panel
    • Remove the six 7mm bolts: two from the door pull; one from the door handle; one beside the master switch; and two along the bottom of the door panel
    • Release the door panel from its clips by pulling straight out
    • Lift the door panel from the door lock rod
    • Pull the door cable back, around, and out
    • Disconnect the master switch wiring harness
    • If the weatherstrip removed with the door panel, pull the stripping back, pry down on the clip, and pull the weatherstrip back
    • Pry out each clip from either end of the door trim
    • Remove the trim around the window
  2. step 2 :Removing the Window Regulator
    • Remove the two 7mm bolts from the bracket on the water shield
    • Carefully pry off the water shield
    • Remove the rubber boot from the door with a pair of pliers
    • Remove the 10mm bolts from the window
    • Lift the window up
    • Secure the window in place with painter's tape
    • Disconnect the window motor lead
    • Remove the five 10mm bolts from the window regulator
    • Remove the window regulator
  3. step 3 :Removing the Exterior Door Handle
    • Turn off the dome light
    • Remove the rubber grommet from the side of the door
    • Apply duct tape to the 7mm socket
    • Remove the 7mm bolt from the exterior door handle
    • Pull out on the door handle
    • Remove the door lock trim
    • Pull the handle straight out and toward the front of the vehicle
    • Remove the door handle
  4. step 4 :Removing the Door Lock Actuator and Latch
    • Remove the upper 10mm bolt and loosen the lower 10mm bolt from the window track
    • Lift the window track up and out
    • Disconnect the green electrical connector
    • Remove the lock rod
    • Remove the 10mm bolt beneath the lock rod's position
    • Remove the three T30 bolts from the door lock actuator
    • Remove the door lock actuator
  5. step 5 :Removing the Front Door Lock Cable and Lock Cylinder
    • Pull up on the tab and remove the door lock cable
    • Press the clips on the lock cable
    • Pop the plastic cable end up and out
    • Unhook the cable and remove it
    • Remove the rod from the door lock cylinder
    • Pull the clip from the door lock cylinder
    • Remove the door lock cylinder
  6. step 6 :Installing the Front Door Lock Cable and Lock Cylinder
    • Press the clip to the door lock cylinder slot
    • Insert the door lock cylinder to the front door latch
    • Attach the rod to the lock cylinder
    • Hook in the lock cable
    • Pop in the plastic cable end
    • Clip in the door lock cable
  7. step 7 :Installing the Door Lock Actuator and Latch
    • Insert the door lock actuator into place with the lock cylinder out of the door
    • Tighten the 6mm bolt to the outside of the door
    • Tighten the 10mm bolt to the door, beneath the lock rod position
    • Tighten the three T30 bolts to the door lock actuator
    • Connect the door lock rod
    • Insert the window track
    • Tighten the two 10mm bolts to the window track
    • Connect the green electrical lead
  8. step 8 :Installing the Exterior Door Handle
    • Pull the mechanism beside the lock back with a hooked pick
    • Insert the door lock gasket
    • Insert the door handle into place and slide it toward the rear
    • Open the door handle
    • Replace the door lock trim
    • Tighten the 7mm bolt to the door handle
    • Replace the rubber grommet to the side of the door
  9. step 9 :Installing the Window Regulator
    • Insert the window regulator into place
    • Tighten the five 10mm bolts to the window regulator
    • Connect the window motor lead
    • Plug in the master control switch connector
    • Turn the key on and test the regulator
    • Lower the window onto the window regulator
    • Tighten the 10mm bolts to the window
    • Attach the rubber boot
    • Press on the water shield
    • Tighten the bracket and the two 7mm bolts to the bracket
  10. step 10 :Installing the Front Door Panel
    • If needed, insert the weatherstrip clips to the door
    • Press the weatherstrip on
    • Connect the wiring harness
    • Insert the window trim into place
    • Press the clips in to the window trim
    • Place the weatherstripping over the window trim
    • Connect the door handle cable
    • Connect the master switch panel wiring harness
    • Insert the door panel into place
    • Press in the door panel clips
    • Tighten the six 7mm bolts: Remove the six 7mm bolts: two from the door pull; one from the door handle; one beside the master switch; and two along the bottom of the door panel
    • Press on the trim panel along the door pull and master switch panel
    • Replace the trim door in the door pull
    • Replace the trim door behind the door handle
