How to Replace Automatic Transmission Input Turbine Speed Sensor 2002-06 Nissan Altima

step 1 :Removing the Wheel
- Loosen the lug nut covers with a 22mm socket
- Pry off the center cap with a flat blade screwdriver
- Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
- Secure the vehicle on jack stands
- Remove the lug nuts
- Pull off the wheel

step 2 :Removing the Input Speed Sensor
- Pry out the clip from the inner wheel well
- Pull out the fender liner
- Disconnect the electrical connector
- Remove the 10mm bolt
- Remove the speed sensor

step 3 :Installing the Input Speed Sensor
- Press in the speed sensor
- Tighten the 10mm bolt
- Connect the electrical connector
- Press on the clip to the fender liner

step 4 :Reattaching the Wheel
- Slide the wheel into place
- Start the lug nuts by hand
- Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
- Lower the vehicle to the ground
- Tighten the lug nuts to 73-86 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern

Before you lift and support the vehicle, loosen the lug nuts with the wheel on the ground. Use a 21mm socket and a breaker bar. Lift and support the vehicle. Lug nuts loose, you can use the 21mm socket with just your hand, and finish removing the lug nuts. Remove the wheel and place it aside.
You don't have to remove this clip to get the shield out of here, but what we're going to work on is behind it, so it will just make it easier for you to see. Take a flat screwdriver or a trim tool, pop this clip out, and pull this aside. The revolution sensor, also known as the vehicle speed output sensor, is on the transmission. It's right here. The turbine sensor is located further in. Reach up and unclip the electrical connector. Push the lock tab in. If the connector is hard to push, the tab, we're going to take a small flat bladed screwdriver and just push the lock in. Take a 10mm socket and ratchet, and break it free. Once it's loose, take the bolt out with my fingers. Have a drain pan ready in case this leaks any transmission fluid out.
Reinstallation is the reverse of the removal. Place it back into the transmission. Reinstall the small bolt. Take a 10mm ratchet and socket. It's just a small bolt going into aluminum, very gently tighten it. Once I feel like it's tight, I'm just going to stop. Reconnect the electrical connection. And sensors replaced.
Push our plastics back into place, reinstall the clip, and reinstall our wheel. And we'll torque the lug nuts. Going to use the socket to get these lug nuts as tight as you can by hand and torque the wheel afterwards once it's on the ground. Torque on the lug nuts is 73 to 86, so I'm going to torque these to 80 in a cross pattern. Job is complete.
