Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the rear door panel on this '97 VW Jetta, pretty much the same procedure for both the Jetta and the Golf. The only tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver and a T10 Torx driver.

Start here with a flat blade screwdriver and pry right in back behind here. Start pulling this up and then you want to pry actually more underneath here. You pull it out and the clips go in and hook down, so you want to try as much as you can to pull down here to release the bottom and up to release the top. Pull that off. There are two Phillips screws right back in here. Fast forward here, as I remove those two screws. There's one up at the top of that door pull handle and one down closest to the bottom of the door pole handle. Now, for your window crank, you can see the crank here and then there's this little collar closer to the door panel. Pull that away from where the handle is. That comes off. Then there are T10 Torx fasteners. There are two on the front and two on rear. If you use a T10 Torx driver, see I can just turn it very lightly and make sure you're not pressing on it too much and it should back right out. Fast forward again here as I take those T10 Torx screws out. There are six of them. There are two in the back, two in the front and two down near the bottom of the door panel. Remove the lock knob just by turning it counter clockwise. Pull out and then you want to pull it out of this top bracket nice and firmly. It has little clips that sometimes stick in there hard; sometimes they come out easy. Pull the door panel off.

Reinstallation is just the reverse. Put it over the lock. Just line it up into that molding on top. Put the two screws back in. Now, I'm going to start putting in the six T10 Torx screws that hold the outside edge of the panel. Put the lock button on. Slide that back into place. Lock that back on and the pull, handle out. Push this back on.
