In this video, we're going to show you how to remove the rear bumper cover on this '86 Camaro IROC-Z, same as many '82 to '92 Camaros and Firebirds, all models. Tools you'll need are flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm wrench or socket and ratchet.

First, take a flat blade screwdriver. There are four of these plastic pins. You can see I've already taken the trim out of this side. I'll fast forward as I pull those out. You can see I'm actually missing two. Our car's obviously been apart before and somebody didn't put those back in. Take a Phillips screwdriver. There are two screws on top. We'll fast forward again as I remove those two Phillips screws. Before you can actually take this light out, just gently pry out one side, and it comes out like that, and then just pull the connector off. It has a couple of ears and you want to gently pry those because this is usually pretty brittle. Gently pry and pull at the same time and that light come off. The switch is still hooked up. I'm just going to pull the switch connector right off. There's the switch connector. This can stay just like that. You want to pull the side panel out as well; you can just pull it out of the way.

Now, there are five thumb screws: one, two, and then once you pull this out of the way, there's another one there, and there's one back in here and one right there. I'll speed up as I take those thumb screws off. I was able to do them all with my hand, they do have, I believe, a 10 to 12mm bolt head on them if you need to use a wrench to get some extra leverage.

Pull your plate down. Pull the inside out first and pull it straight back and then your taillights all have a little tab on them. Push on the tab, turn it counterclockwise, and the bulbs come out. There's a little side marker bulb and then your back-up light you can either take the screw out and undo it that way, or probably, it would be actually be easier to reach in with both hands here, twist, and remove. There's the light off the car.

I don't show it here but additionally, you'll need to take the screws out around the area where your hatch lift struts go into the side of the car and that allows you to pull the side trim panels all the way out.

On each side, there are three bolts. I'm going to move this insulation. They're 10mm bolts: one, two and three. Then there are another two 10mm bolts here at the license plate bracket and then the same three over here, you can see I already removed them on this side. Then there's a series of just clips or plugs and you can see one right here. These are on the top and bottom. You just use a screwdriver and pry up the middle of the clip, just pry up the middle, grab hold and pull it out. That's what the clip looks like. Those are all along the top and then also down here along the bottom. There's also a bolt on your rear bumper cover that goes right up through here, probably a little 9/32 inch or 7mm or 8mm.

You'll get some of these pins that are stubborn and what you can see is I actually broke off the head of this one and if you do that, what you can actually do is just push the pin right up through and then the clip will come out. You'll have to replace that clip.

With everything unbolted and all those pins out, you can pull the cover right off. Also just as a note, make sure you keep all your hardware, put into a plastic bag and label it properly so you can find it and even put in the broken or bad stuff that you're not going to reuse. Keep it in there that you'll can have something to reference when you need to find new hardware.
