Created on: 2012-07-17

If the rear bumper cover is cracked or broken, this video will show you how to replace it

  1. step 1 :Remove the taillights
    • Use a flat blade screwdriver to remove the clip securing the trim
    • You can service the bulbs from here.
  2. step 2 :Remove the bumper cover
    • Remove the two 8 mm bolts on either side of the wheel wells.
    • There are also two more 8 mm bolts under little plastic covers in the trunk hatch jamb.
    • Then, there are a series of push clips along the edge of the bumper cover.
    • Remove these push clips by prying up the center to unlock them, and then firmly pull the body of the clip up and out.
  3. step 3 :Service the tail light assembly
    • There are now two exposed 10 mm bolts and a Phillips screw under the tail light where the bumper cover was.
    • On the inside of the trunk, there are three 8 mm nuts.
    • Remove all these with your 8 and 10 mm socket and ratchet and your Phillips screwdriver.
    • Disconnect the bulbs and remove the assembly.
  4. step 4 :Install the new taillight assembly
    • Install the bracket onto the new tail light, and secure it with that Phillips screw.
    • Connect the bulbs and harness
    • Put the tail light back into place.
    • Secure the tail light with the three 8 mm nuts and the two 10 mm ones.
  5. step 5 :Install the bumper cover

Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Hi. I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how to video helps you out and the next time you need a part for your vehicle think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks. In this video we will be showing you have to remove the rear bumper cover on this 2003 Honda Civic. Pretty much the same as any '01 to '05 Civic. It's a pretty easy procedure. All you will need is a flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, 8 and 10 mm sockets with a ratchet and extension.

To access your outer taillight you go to the trunk here. There's a little clip here. Use a flat blade screwdriver and you basically just twist out the middle. The middle pulls out and then you can pull the clip out with the trim and pull this trim down. If you are just looking to replace bulbs you just go right in here, twist counterclockwise and they come out. The bulbs just pull right straight out of the sockets. Then replace them. Do the same thing up here. There are a few fasteners on each side. On each side you will see an 8mm bolt right up under there. You will see a Phillips screw right there and then open up your trunk and there are a couple little panels here. Pry out and there's a 10mm bolt right back there. Then underneath there are a few clips and what you do with these is pry the middle out. You can see they are usually a little sandy so you have to work at them a little bit. I'll pull the camera back and fast forward as I just work at getting those two bottom clips out. You basically just need to pull them down between about 1/8th and a 1/4 of an inch and then pull on the whole clip and they come out. We will keep up the fast pace here as we remove the fasteners from each side. Again it's an 8mm bolt, a Phillips screw and a 10mm bolt.

Once you have those out just pull firmly out on each side. The bumper will actually just come right off. Once you have your bumper cover off, there are two bolts you need to undo here plus a Phillips screw up there and then inside here and in here there are the three 8mm bolts there, there and there without removing the bulbs. Coat the fasteners underneath the taillight with some penetrating oil to try and loosen them up. I'm going to fast forward here as I remove those two 10mm nuts and they are probably going to - on this vehicle it's a northeast vehicle so they do both brake. Not the worst thing in the world. The screw underneath the taillight actually still holds the bracket in place. At the bottom on the light there's a Phillips screw here. It's usually pretty difficult to get off. Remove it and remove this bracket. The new light from 1A Auto comes with a new screw so take that off. Put the bracket in place.

I'm going to fast forward through here. I just put the taillight back in place and put the three 8mm nuts back on the inside of the trunk and tighten them up and put the bulbs and harnesses back into place and put the trim back in place as well. Now I'll fast forward here. Just put those 10mm bolts back into place. Fast forward here as I put the two clips in the bottom, just kind of pull the centers out, push the clips in and then push the centers in to lock. Then reinstall the little covers in the back trunk area as well as the 8mm and Phillip screws that hold the cover in the wheel well area. There's your taillight as good as new.
