step 1 :Removing the Oxygen (O2) Sensor
- Pry the grey safety clip off the oxygen sensor wiring harness with a flat blade screwdriver
- Disconnect the O2 sensor wiring harness
- Remove the O2 sensor with an O2 sensor socket and ratchet

step 2 :Installing the New Oxygen Sensor
- Thread the new O2 sensor into the exhaust manifold
- Tighen the O2 sensor with an O2 sensor socket and ratchet
- Connect the O2 sensor wiring harness
- Push the wiring harness safety clip into place

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the front oxygen sensor on a 2.2 liter model year 2000 Chevy Cavalier. In order to do this you'll need a new oxygen sensor from 1A Auto, as well as a 7/8 inch wrench, and, if you have one, it might help you to use a 7/8 oxygen sensor socket, as well as an extension and socket wrench.
Locate the front oxygen sensor right there in the front, exactly on the exhaust manifold, and then its harness that goes to the clip. I'm using a pocket screwdriver to pry off, or pry out that grey portion of the connector that's just kind of a safety lock on the connector so it doesn't come loose and then once I've got that pried out of the way I'll press in on the center of that tab to release it. I'm using a 7/8 inch oxygen sensor socket on the end of an extension and I'm going to use a socket wrench. I'm actually going to need a pipe that's going to go over the end of that socket wrench so I can get a little bit more leverage on it just to break it free, and I'm going to go ahead and fast forward as I unscrew that. You can see here the oxygen sensor as I pull it out.
Going back in with the oxygen sensor I'm going to seat it in the threads and then use the socket to turn it in and tighten it, and I'm going to go ahead and fast forward as I tighten up that oxygen sensor. Plug the connector back in and press in on the grey clip.
