How to Clean Up Spilled Oil

Created on: 2017-04-21

How to clean up spilled oil

  1. step 1 :Cleaning Up Spilled Oil
    • Sprinkle oil absorbent on the oil
    • If you don't have oil absorbent, substitute cat litter
    • Allow the oil to soak into the absorbent
    • Grind the absorbent into the oil
    • Move the absorbent aside
    • Add more absorbent and repeat the above steps as necessary
    • Sweep up and dispose of the old absorbent

Our truck leaked some oil out of the front while we had it running to warm up our engine, so we're going to put some oil absorbent on it, and this is just almost like a cat litter, and actually, cat litter will work if you don't have an oil absorbent handy.

You want to get it on there nice and thick and give it a minute to soak in, and grind it in there. We'll move the oil-contaminated absorbent away and cover that again. We'll just keep coating it over and grinding it in, and it's nice and clean.

Now we'll just sweep up the old absorbent, and some of the more high-quality absorbents are actually reusable, so if you leave this somewhere to spread out and dry, you can sweep it back into the bag and use it a few more times to reduce waste.
