Top DIY Money Saving Repairs on 2005-10 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan

Created on: 2021-04-25

Andy shows you some easy repairs that you can do yourself to save money!

In this video, we're going over some of the top DIY repairs that you can do to save money on this 2005 to 2010 Volkswagen Jetta.

One of the first money-saving repairs that you can do yourself and you're definitely going to need them because they wear out is your brakes. You start out by taking this spring off, you can use some needlenose pliers. And you want to take this caliper off, pull the brake pads off. Take this bracket off, there's a couple of bolts on the backside, two bolts for the caliper, two bolts for the bracket. Then you're able to get the rotor off after you take that screw up. Assembly is the same as disassembly, and then you're gonna wanna compress the caliper before you put it back together.

Along with the brakes, another money saver is front struts or rear shocks. Now, the front struts come out fairly easily. To replace the front strut, you wanna take this bolt out and separate it from the knuckle. You can support the lower control arm and knuckle from underneath with either a floor jack or a jack stand. Disconnect this nut. This is the front sway bar link. If you're struggling to get the lower part of the front strut out from the knuckle, you can take the bolt out of the axle, and also the lower ball joint nuts, take those down, and just lower the whole knuckle assembly.

Just be careful because you still have the brake hoses attached and stuff. That'll help you move this around a little bit more so there's more room. But you can try to do it. You might have to work a little harder. From up top under the hood, there'll be a cover over the strut mount. You need to pull that cover off and access the three bolts. Take those three bolts out while you're holding on to the spring. And then you should be able to pull the whole spring and strut assembly out. Install the spring and strut assembly in reverse of how it came out and make sure you get an alignment after you've done the job.

The headlights can be extremely expensive if you don't do them on your own, and they're really not that difficult to do. These headlights come out. First, you take the grille, then you take the bumper off. There's screws down below, underneath, behind the wheel well. When the bumper is off, then there's some screws that hold the headlight on. You can slide it out, disconnect it, put the new one in, you're good to go.

After you're done replacing the headlights, you want to aim them. Use a 6 millimeter Allen wrench, and right here is where the adjuster is. You turn this clockwise or counterclockwise based on whether you wanted to go up or down and adjust them up.

Mirrors are another great way for you to save money. To remove the mirror, you're gonna have to take the door panel off and it's not that difficult. There's a switch plate you need to remove this area. There's some screws behind here, a couple of screws underneath here, and the screw in the front. Remove the door panel. Take this trim piece off, there'll be some screws holding the mirror on, and then there's a wire that you need to disconnect. To reinstall it, you're gonna do the exact same thing in reverse.

So those are some expensive repairs that you can do yourself and save tons of money. If you enjoyed this video or it helped you out, make sure you subscribe to our channel, ring the bell, turn on all notifications so you don't miss any of our videos.
