Sue tells you all about the most common problems with the Dodge Ram engine, especially the 4.7L Magnum, and 5.7L Hemi.
In this video, I wanna talk about '02 to '08 Dodge Ram trucks' possible, potential engine problems. And if you have one, well, you're in luck, because there's hardly any.
So with all the research I've done for you, let me tell you, the Dodge comes up short for engine problems. A lot of people love them, and I do too, 4.7 or the 5.7, both of them are almost bulletproof. Some have at high mileage external head gasket leaks, but that's also probably due to a lack of maintenance, you know, letting it run too long.
One of the other things I've noticed through the years with Dodge, mostly the SUVs or any truck that has a long oil fill neck is you'll get a lot of white cream on the cover when you open it. And that is due to the moisture buildup inside that plastic. It's just the temperature change, outside and engine temp. As long as there's no sludge in your dipstick when you pull it out to check your oil level, you'll be fine.
Other thing is a timing chain chatter. The guides on these sometimes break. So the plastic guides that are inside the timing chain, they'll just chip away and that gives me slack in that timing chain. But once again, proper oil changes and good maintenance will keep that to a bay and it won't happen to you.
The only other problem people complain about on these Dodgers is the transmission. Now, I know it's not the engine, but they had certain years, very wide range of years, that the transmissions just weren't shifting right. You can look it up and see if that's your model and your make.
