Top Check Engine Trouble Codes 2005-10 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan

Created on: 2021-05-08

Andy explains the most frequent check engine codes that pop up with the Jettas in this year range.

Here we have a 2005 to 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. In this video, we're going over the top check engine light codes for this vehicle.

The first one we're gonna talk about is the P0411, which has to do with the secondary air injection system. When you start your vehicle, because of the emissions, you wanna pump air into the exhaust, and that's gonna burn some of the excess emissions off. There's an air pump underneath your intake, and there's a hose that comes around here through this valve right here. That valve will open and force the air into the exhaust system. The most common problem is this valve not working properly whether it's getting stuck closed or stuck open. And also, there's tubes that go under here, they're plastic. Over time, they're gonna deteriorate and crack. So check those out before you replace the pump.

Next, let's talk about the P0456, which has to do with an EVAP system code. And, again, that's an emissions related, has to do with the fuel vapors entering the atmosphere. To prevent that, you need a purge valve, which is located right here. Sometimes these fail and cause that coat. It's pretty easy to replace. You just take that engine cover off. There's a connector here, take some hose clamps off. You might have to get a new hose clamp for that side that's not such a reusable one. If you don't break it, you can reuse it though. Whenever you have an EVAP problem, you always wanna check the gas cap, make sure it's not loose. And pull it off, make sure the seal looks good. Make sure it's not dry rot, or cracking. And just make sure you tighten it back up. Make sure that's sealed.

And the last one we're gonna talk about is the P2279, which has to do with the PCV system, which is part of the valve cover. The PCV system is part of the valve cover, and it's made of plastic so, over time, it may crack or deteriorate, and stop doing its job. The best thing to do, replace the whole valve cover. Some of the symptoms you may find is the engine running rough, and you may even have misfire. There's our top engine code problems for this Volkswagen Jetta.
