Top 5 Problems Kia Sportage SUV 4th Generation 2017-Present

Created on: 2020-10-27

These are the top 5 problems with the 4th generation Kia Sportage, which is available as model years 2017 and up.

In this video, we're going to be talking about the top five problems on this fourth-generation Kia Sportage.

Now, there's nothing wrong with this vehicle. There's nothing wrong with buying one or owning one. Every car has their problems. These are the top five that we have found.

Number one, the latch for the rear liftgate. So, you may notice, when you lock your car, all your doors lock and work fine, and then you go to your rear liftgate and it actually opens. It does not lock. If you have this issue, most of the time, just replacing the latch will fix that issue.

Number two, the knock sensor. Now, the knock sensor is located underneath the intake manifold, which, when you're trying to diagnose the sensor or you have to gain access to it, you have to remove the intake manifold. Now, some of the symptoms you may find is the "Check Engine" flashing, and the vehicle may even go into limp mode with a code P1326. Now, before just replacing the knock sensor itself, you want to check for obvious damage. If the engine is knocking, there may be internal engine damage. Check your oil level. Make sure that's proper. If there's nothing to be found, mostly likely the knock sensor will fix your problem.

Number three, the air conditioning EVAP temp sensor. Now, you may notice that your air conditioning isn't as cold as it usually is or it's not working at all. Now, a common problem with this is the EVAP temp sensor, which is actually located behind this panel. It is right in the heater box. And what that does is measure the temperature of the EVAP core, and sometimes those fail and cause your AC not to work properly.

Number four, the sunroof not closing. In some vehicles, there's a common problem where the sunroof won't actually close, and it could be something as simple as cleaning the tracks out, having them lubricated, and recalibrating the sunroof. Now, that's going to fix the majority of the problems with the sunroof. In some situation, there may be internal components in the sunroof mechanism that need to be replaced.

Number five, the EVAP purge solenoid. Now, the EVAP purge solenoid is located right here. And if you have a bad EVAP purge solenoid, you're going to end up with a "Check Engine" light. You probably won't have any significant drivability issues, just the "Check Engine" light. Now, whenever you have an EVAP code, you always want to check the gas cap first, make sure that it's not loose, and then in the event that that wasn't the issue, most likely it's the purge valve itself.

So, those are our top five problems with this fourth-gen Kia Sportage. If you enjoyed this video, make sure you subscribe to our channel. Ring that bell, turn on all notifications, so you don't miss any of our videos.
