Top 5 Problems Hyundai Sonata Sedan 6th Generation 2011-14

Created on: 2020-11-24

Andy points out the 5 most common issues with the 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata according to mechanics across the US.

In this video, we're going over the top five problems on the sixth-generation Hyundai Sonata.

Now, there's nothing wrong with this vehicle, there's nothing wrong with buying one or owning one. Every vehicle has their problems, these are the top five that we have found.

Number one. The cabin fuse box. It's located right here. And the symptom you're gonna notice is when you turn the parking lights on, and you go to shut them off, they don't shut off. Now, there's an internal malfunction in the fuse box itself and that's what's causing it, it's gotta be replaced.

Number two. The timing chain tensioner. Now, the timing chain is located internal of the engine, right behind this cover underneath this cover, and it connects the bottom of the engine to the top of the engine. The symptom you're gonna find with the timing chain tensioner failing is a lot of engine noise when you start up. You may hear some rattling that's coming from that area. Hyundai has actually updated their timing chain tensioner, so it will prevent this problem.

Number three. The vehicle speed sensor. Now, it's located in the transmission that's underneath this cover on the driver side. Now when that sensor goes bad, you're gonna find a check engine light and you may notice some shifting quality issues. The good thing about this, if you notice some transmission driveability issues, it's probably not the transmission, it's probably just the speed sensor and it's a cheaper, easier fix.

Number four. The EGR valve. Now, you're gonna find this problem on the 2.7-liter V6 engine and the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The symptom you're gonna find with this is a rough running idle or even driving down the road a little bit rough, and it may be intermittent. On the four-cylinder version, you are going to find it somewhere underneath the intake in this area.

Number five. No sound coming from the speakers. This does not apply to the hybrid models, but for all the other models there could be a glitch in the stereo system causing no sound coming out of the speakers. The repair for this is actually pretty simple, you just need to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, wait 15 minutes, then reconnect the negative terminal and you should be good to go. This is kind of like your computer at home. If there's a glitch in your computer, a lot of times you have to reset the computer, well for the radio you have to reset it.

So those are our top five problems for this Hyundai Sonata. If you enjoyed this video, make sure you subscribe to our channel, ring the bell, turn on all notifications so you don't miss any of our videos.
