Top 5 Problems Dodge Avenger Sedan 2nd Generation 2008-14

Created on: 2021-02-20

Andy explains the five most common problems that the Dodge Avenger has, and he also explains how you can take care of those problems yourself!

In this video, we're going over the top five problems on this second-generation Dodge Avenger.

Number one, ignition coils. Your ignition coils are located right here, and that is what gives the spark plug the spark. When replacing the ignition coils, it's always a great idea to replace the spark plugs as well. Some of the symptoms you're gonna find when you have a bad ignition coil is the engine's gonna run rough, you'll have a check engine light, sometimes the check engine light flashes.

Number two, the throttle body. It's located way down here, right next to the intake manifold. And that's the flap that opens and closes to allow more airflow into the engine while you're driving. Some of the symptoms you're gonna find is an erratic idle while you're sitting there not moving, the idle is going up and down chasing, or even a low idle, or even a stall. Sometimes you'll get a check engine light with a throttle body code, and you could try to clean the throttle body, but most of the time you just need to replace it.

Number three, the blower motor. You may find when you go to turn on your heat and adjust the blower motor that nothing's coming out of the vents, it's probably because the blower motor has failed, and it's located right under here. Another symptom you may notice is noise coming from the blower motor. If you have noise, you should pull it out, see if there are any leaves or pine needles in it so you don't have to order a blower motor, just put it back in.

Number four, the alternator. On this vehicle, the alternator is located right here, underneath the power steering pump. When you have a bad alternator, you're gonna notice that the battery light comes on while you're driving the vehicle. If you drive the vehicle with the battery light on for too long, eventually it's gonna die and then you're not gonna be able to start it. Another symptom you may notice is the vehicle not starting because the battery is not holding the charge properly. You always wanna check the battery, test the battery, make sure you have a good battery. But if the alternator is not charging the battery, it could cause the battery to fail.

Number five, the thermostat. The engine thermostat is located right down here, and this is part of the whole housing right here. You can replace just the thermostat, but it's always a good idea to replace the whole housing. This is plastic, over time it's gonna get brittle, it's gonna crack. Some of the symptoms you're gonna find if you have a bad thermostat is you don't have any heat, you may have a check engine light with a thermostat-related code, and under rare circumstances, if the thermostat got stuck closed, the engine may overheat.
