Top 5 Problems 3rd Generation 2010-15 Lexus RX350 SUV

Created on: 2021-07-02

Sue explains the most common problems or issues that you might encounter as an owner of a 2010 to 2015 Lexus RX350!

In this video, we're gonna go over the top five problems we found with a third-generation Lexus 350. Number one, massive oil leak, the 3.5, they're known for the oil line that goes from the VVT solenoid to the oil feed, they blow. Now, there's been a replacement of it, updated one, they still have the same problem. So if you have major oil all over the ground, or your engine light comes on and the oil light, stop immediately. You've got to try to save that engine. All that oil will come right out. You have to get it towed. Don't push it, don't add a quart thinking you're gonna drive because you're not. You've got to replace those lines, and it's a pretty major job. Line is only made from Lexus or Toyota, can't get it aftermarket, but put that line in, and hopefully, you saved your engine. And you'll be doing okay.

Number two, AC is inop, you have your AC on, might have been working fine the day before and all of a sudden, nothing. Blower but no cold air comes out. So you get someone to diagnose it or you look at it real quick. You check it the AC compressor, you check the connector with a test light or a voltmeter and you see if there's any voltage and there's no voltage. You find a smart schematic and you find where the ground is and there's no ground. I'm going to say straight out, the fastest thing to do is check the AC amplifier and it is in the glove box behind the glove box up underneath. Basically, it's right above the cabinet filter box. You can't miss it, it's a black box about this big with electrical wires going into it. Toyota knows they have a problem, Lexus, too. And you might get a Body Code of B1475.

Number three, the liftgate doesn't work properly. Sometimes you get the key fob and it will go up and it won't go down or you hit the key fob, it unlocks and it won't go up but you have to come over and hit the button, it goes up. So what Lexus is saying is that the first thing they want you to do is to do initialization which is basically to reprogram it. And sometimes if you disconnect the battery on this thing, world of hurt, sunroof doesn't work. Windows don't go down and the liftgate doesn't work. It's just a real simple reprogram with the key and you in the driver's seat, you don't need a scanner, you don't need anything. So if you need to do that, you can do a search and it will give you step by step on how to do that.

Number four is software update. A lot of people you know freak out because the radio or the GPS or the CD player is intermittent. All's it is is simple. First step always on Lexus is get a software update, make sure it is the latest update, and it should fix all those little kinks you got going on.

Number five can't go without saying about Lexus or Toyota is oxygen sensor codes, PO137 and PO138. Now, we can't go without talking about how Toyota and Lexus are one and the same. Their upper O2 sensors are air-fuel ratio sensors. They don't call them upstream, they call them air-fuel ratio sensors because that's what they are. And the downstream O2 sensors have failure for heated sensors. Now, when you go to replace them just make sure you replace them with something that is within the OE spec of the realm. You can't just get a universal O2 sensor, it will never work. So with that code 138, they have been known for just the heater sensor which is inside the O2 sensor to go fault. If that happens, then just do it right you replace the sensor with a quality one that will operate correctly in the system and go from there. They have wiring issues. So if it seems too difficult or you put one sensor and the code keeps coming back, don't be afraid to reach out for help.
