Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
This is part two of two, changing over from the small paddle style OE mirror shown here to these larger tow style extendable mirrors that have the signal and marker light in them.
I'm going to put the kick panel back in. Make sure you route the wire up and over and then there's a couple of pins that just go in.
We're going to speed through putting the door panel back together. Put the speaker back in, reconnect it and then put everything back on.
In the meantime, we are also going to replace the other mirror and pick it back up and running the wiring under the dash. Then just grab hold and give a good tug all the way around. You'll need to turn your truck on, put the gear shift lever down, and lift it up and out.
This truck has a brake controller, to get this panel down most likely you're going to have to take this out, so I'll do that really quick. Then there's a couple of screws, one here right next to the brake release and then one over here up over where the gas pedal is. Those are 7mm screws.
Now there's some brackets and stuff you can run your wire up above here. Pull right up through the glove box, take some stiffer wire, and just run it right through there and right across through. You'll be able to feed the stiffer wire in behind and it's coming out right here. Take my red wire, feed it behind the brace there, reach in here, grab it, and pull it through so it stays in back behind the glove box. Now push this wire through some more and I'll pull it through from the other side a little bit. Take the red wire, make a loop right around like that, and then just pull the wire like that and it should pull the red wire right through. Take the red wire, reach through, and pull it behind that brace there into here.
You've got your wires routed under the dash and on this connector here, there is a light blue and a dark blue, right next to each other. If you like I've got my test light. I'm going to hook up the ground side and turn on the vehicle and I put the left blinker on. So this light blue is your left blinker. Right blinker is this dark blue. Under the dash is the same thing, the light blue is the driver's side blinker so we'll clip the wire into our tap, make sure it's right in there. Then bring the lead from the mirror, push it up in. Get some pliers, give that a little bit of a tug make sure it's connected pretty well and flip it over. We're going to turn our key on, do a quick check and the signal's working. For the dark blue lead next to it which is the right hand blinker, clip the wire in there, the lead from the mirror. Sometimes it's good to get the pliers on there like that, put the lead in and squeeze it down. Now here you can see, here's our marker lights working and our signal's working. You can see on the dash that the signal is going.
The thing about these LEDs is this is not high voltage, they draw very little power so there's not a whole lot of worry about anything shorting out or blowing fuses or anything like that. I'm going to speed through putting this back together. There are little clips that popped off of that panel when I took it apart so you just want to .. The clips just slide down out of the dash. Just make sure you clip them back onto the panel and then put it back up. It's always a good idea to clean off your bezel and clean off your lens and everything so when you put it altogether it looks nice and new looking. Slide the bezel in and down. There's some line-up pins on each side, and once you get it in the right spot, you just push it on.
