Don't get stranded with a bad spare tire! 1A Auto shares some maintenance tips on how to care for your spare!
Tire Pressure Gauge
Air Compressor
Hi. I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
Even though this temporary spare tire is brand new, something you should check at least once a year or every couple oil changes is to see how much air is in the spare tire. That should be written usually on a sticker. There should be manufacturer recommendation. This one is 60psi. Sometimes it's molded into the side of the tire. Actually, this one is also molded into the side of the tire. It says 60psi right here.
Just by squeezing this, I can feel that it's soft. Of course, what happens is you forget about this spare tire. You get a flat with your normal car tire, then you go to use this and it's also flat and you have no way to fill it up because you're on the side of the road. Definitely make sure that this is something you check regularly. Just keep this spare full of air. Hopefully you should never need to use it, but if you do, it'll be ready for you when you want to.
I'm going to fill this up to 60psi. Yeah, this tire was actually flat. That just happens with age. The vehicle we took this out of is a 2008, so it's almost nine years old. It's brand new, but it's been sitting in the trunk of a car and it actually had no air in it. So I'm filling it up to ā we're up to 40psi; Iām going to fill it up to the recommended 60psi. Right there: 60psi.
See, I can't push in on this tire anymore? That's gonna work great for us if we ever need to use it. Take our temporary spare, place it in place. You should always follow the recommendations for the spare tire. It's only meant to go a certain distance and a certain speed. It's basically just meant to get you to a safe place where you can have your other tire replaced or repaired. I'm going to lower the jack and just make sure those are nice and tight.
