I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we'll be showing you how to replace the wiper transmission arm for the front wiper motor on this '98 Chevy Venture, same as a Pontiac Transporter Montana as well as the old Silhouette. Tools you'll need are pretty basic. Flat blade screwdriver, an 8 millimeter socket and ratchet, you'll need a T30 Torx bit with a ratchet. First, you'll want to pull up this gasket here. That allows you to pull your cover up. Next thing you want to do, use the screwdriver, unplug your motor. That way it won't be tempted to run for any reason. Now, you'll want to use an 8 millimeter socket and loosen these two bolts here. That will come up and off. Now, you'll want to use a T30 Torx driver and remove the screw right on top of your arm. Once that's out, with the screwdriver, pry the arm up and off.
To reinstall the arm, I'm going to reinstall the old one because there's nothing wrong with it. The new arm is from 1A Auto is exactly like this old ones. They have the safety catch in case your wiper gets stuck. What you want to do is put it on the arm and pretty much kind of hold it like that so it's straight. That's where it holds. Note, you want to have your wipers down in a parked position in your windshield as you're putting this together. Spay a bit of white grease. If you get squeaking out of your wipers, you want to check there. There are other joints here, here and here and even another one over there. Loosen up these 8 millimeter bolts. Drop them down. Put a little bit of grease on there and that will stop the squeaking pretty well. It should move around a little bit. Put the cover. Put it back on. Obviously you want to plug your wiper motor in.
