How to Replace Windshield Wiper Motor 2000-05 Chevy Monte Carlo

  1. step 1 :Removing the Wiper Arms
    • Pry off the caps from the wiper arms with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the 13mm nuts from the wiper arms
    • Lift the wiper arms off the studs with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Disconnect the washer hose from the wiper arms
    • Remove the wiper arms
  2. step 2 :Removing the Cowl Panel
    • Remove the weatherstrip
    • Remove the washer hose from the clips
    • Pry out the base of the clips on the cowl panel with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the three clips from the cowl panel
    • Lift the cowl panel and set it aside
  3. step 3 :Removing the Wiper Transmission
    • Remove the three 10mm bolts from the transmission
    • Pry up on the wiper motor panel with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Lift the panel up and off
    • Pry the transmission arm free with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pull the transmission up
    • Push the tab and release the wiper motor wiring harness
    • Lift the transmission up and out
  4. step 4 :Removing the Wiper Motor
    • Remove the plastic cover on the transmission crank by hand
    • Adjust the crank against the pole on the transmission
    • Remove the center T30 Torx bolt
    • Pry the crank arm free with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the three T30 Torx bolts that hold the motor to the mount
  5. step 5 :Installing the New Wiper Motor
    • Place the cover on the new motor
    • Place the new motor underneath the mount
    • Insert and tighten the three T30 Torx bolts
  6. step 6 :Installing the Wiper Transmission
    • Insert the transmission into place
    • Connect the wiper motor wiring harness
    • Replace and tighten the three 10mm bolts to the transmission
  7. step 7 :Testing the Crank Arm
    • Turn the key on
    • Turn the wipers into a delay position
    • Let the motor go around once or twice
    • Turn the key off leaving the wipers in the delay position
    • Line up the crank arm with the hole on the transmission with a center punch
    • Insert and tighten the T30 Torx bolt in the center
    • Turn the key on
    • Let the crank pulse
    • Turn the wipers off and let the crank reset
  8. step 8 :Replacing the Cowl Panel
    • Reconnect the transmission arm to the transmission
    • Push the wiper motor panel into place
    • Replace the cowl panel
    • Replace the cowl panel clips with the base first, center up, and push it down to lock it
    • Re-clip the washer hose
    • Replace the weatherstrip
  9. step 9 :Replacing the Wiper Arms
    • Push the wiper arms onto the studs
    • Replace the 13mm nuts
    • Reconnect the washer hoses
    • Insert the cap onto the wiper arms

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the windshield wiper motor on this 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo. It's the same part and procedure for a range of different GM makes and models. Tools you'll need include a new wiper motor from 1A Auto, 10mm and 13mm sockets, ratchet, T30 Torx driver, and a flat blade screwdriver.

Start off by prying off these caps on the end of either wiper arm. Then remove the 13mm nuts that hold those in place. Use a flat blade screwdriver, and just pry right here at the bottom of the wiper arm. Then lift it up and off the stud. You can set that aside and repeat that process on the other wiper arm. Disconnect your washer hose from the wiper arm, and do the same thing with this wiper arm so your arms are free.

Pull off the weather strip and unclip your washer hose. Just set those aside. You want to remove this clip, this clip, and, right there, there should be a third clip. To remove these, you just pry up the center, pull it out, and then pry out the base. Just repeat the process on the other two, and then for this clip right here, you just want to twist it out with a flat blade screwdriver while lightly prying up with another screwdriver. You should be able to pull it up and out.

Now, lift this cowl panel up and set it aside. Lift up this panel and remove it. Now, remove this bolt, this bolt, and this bolt right here. Each of those are 10mm. Next, you want to remove this panel. To do that, you just need to pry up on this clip right here using a flat blade screwdriver. It'll pop out, and you can lift the panel up and off. Now, you want to pry this arm free. Just tuck it to the side and then pull your transmission up until you can access the harness on the motor. You just push the tab with a flat blade screwdriver and pull the harness free. Now, you can pull your transmission up and out.

Remove the plastic cover on your transmission crank and then turn your transmission crank so it's up against that post on the side there. Then just remove the T30 bolt in the center. Use a large flat blade screwdriver to pry the crank arm free. If you have a two-jar or three-jar polar, you could do this without removing the whole transmission assembly from the vehicle. Now, remove the three T30 Torx bolts that hold the motor to the mount. On the left is the old wiper motor, on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same.

Put this cover back on your motor, put it back underneath the mount, and then replace and tighten up those three bolts. Then feed your transmission back down into place and reconnect the motor harness. Don't pay attention to the fact that the crank on it is already installed. You actually want to install it after you run and position the motor which we kind of did. A little bit out of order, but if you stay with the video here, it'll all come together. Replace the three screws that hold the transmission in place. The crank arm has to go on a specific position, so turn your key on and turn the wipers on to one of the delay positions. Let the motor go around once or twice, stop, and then turn your key off without turning off the wipers.

In this next clip, the assembly is out of the vehicle. I realize this might be confusing, but it was just a better way to be able to film this and really show you the line up hole and how to put the arm on. Your arm should be in the locked or running position. We'll line up the screw down here. There's a line up hole, right here. While you're tightening up that Torx screw, you want to make sure that the arm does not move. Hold that line up tool while you're tightening that bolt. Then just turn your key on, let it pulse, turn the wipers off, and it should reset like this. Then reconnect your arm. Just push it down into place.

Then push this panel back down into place, lineup that clip, and push it back down in. Then replace your cowl panel, do the same thing on this side and replace those clips. You want to replace the base first with the center still up, and then just push it down to lock it. Re-clip your wiper hose, and then put your weatherstrip back into place.

Push this clip back down and replace the other clips. Put the wipers down onto the studs and replace those 13mm nuts. Once you've tightened those up, replace the washer hose and the cap. Do the same thing for the other wiper arm, and then you're all set.
