Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks! In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the evaporative emissions canister shut-off valve on this 2005 Hyundai Elantra, same as a 2001 to 2006. We do it with lift, but you should be able to just kind of get under the back of your car. Make sure your wheels are blocked and you should be able to get to it just fine. You'll need various screwdrivers, a couple different sets of pliers, needle-nose and regular pliers and a 12mm socket with a ratchet and extension.
Okay, to evap canister and shut-off valve in the left rear of the vehicle and the two 12 mm nuts, back and the front. And we'll speed through here as we remove those two 12mm nuts. Pull down ...And just fast forward. These clips have little Phillips screws in them. You just try and kind of loosen up the Phillip screw middles and pull them out. Then, the clip will pull out as well. Here is your evap canister vapor vent valve. Disconnect your harness. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers. Squeeze on the clip. Pull it out and remove it. And a pair of flat pliers. Move the clamp back off of the shut-off valve here and remove. Push this clamp back. We'll use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry, get those off ... Remove your clip from your shut-off valve. Then, to remove the harness, use a little flat-blade screwdriver. Put it in-between the silver clip. Pry up a little bit. You'll hear it click.
We want to re-install the clip onto the shut-off valve. Push your clip in, or your connector in, push your clip down and back in under the tab. So, I'm going to put the clip back onto the shut-off valve and you'll see the flat portion here. It's going to sit in the flat portion here... like so. Now feed the valve up in there. Put it in the side hose, so the hose that's on the side and then tighten, or put that clamp back in place. Then, once that's done, kind of stuff the valve up into the top hose and reset that clamp. Reinstall my clip and I'm going to put my plastic tab back in. Put your strap for the evap canister and shut-off valve back up over the studs and thread on the nuts. And we'll fast forward here. No mystery, just tighten those nuts up and you should be all set.
