Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall an upper engine mount. This is a 2001 Ford ZX2. Pretty much the same for any probably about '98 to 2003 Escort or ZX2 with the dual overhead cam 2.0 liter engine. Tools you'll need are jack and jack stands, 17 millimeter socket and ratchet with an extension, a pipe for some extra leverage, and a large screwdriver or a small pry bar.
We'll get the jack under the oil pan just enough to support it. We're not really lifting the engine. We're just supporting it. I'm taking out the 17 millimeter bolt that holds on the engine mount. We'll fast forward here. We're able to hold the nut on the back side just with our hand but you may need another wrench to hold that. Once you got the bolt out most of the way, actually the nut just came off by hand. Here, we're just removing that bolt and it may help if you just raise your jack just a little more. Take a little pressure off the motor mount and the bolt will come out. I've got two 17 millimeter bolts, or, actually, one 17 millimeter bolt and one nut at the top of the motor mount that I'm taking out. Take out this little piece here. Underneath, you'll find another 17 millimeter bolt. Use a pipe for extra leverage. Then there's one more nut right here. There are two washers. Pull up and out.
Begin installing our motor mount. You can see, we put the motor mount down in, and then installed the two washers, and then the two nuts, and also, let the engine down just a little bit to let the motor mount into place. Now, we put the long bolt through the frame bracket and into the motor mount and start the nut on the other end. We'll fast forward here through as you can see, we start that nut on and then tighten it up with our 15 and 17 millimeter wrenches and socket and ratchet.
