Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the turn signal switch on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. It's the same part and similar process on these Mountaineers from 2002 to 2005. The items that you'll need for this is a new turn signal switch from 1A Auto.com, a Phillips screwdriver, a flat blade screwdriver, 7mm socket and ratchet, and a 7/32 socket or a 5.5mm socket.
Remove these two 7mm bolts. Move your steering wheel up, and then pull this panel straight back and towards you. Then remove these two Phillips screws. Now, pull the panel down on both sides. It'll unclip. Then you can pull that forward, and then you just want to remove this Phillips screw right here. Pull this grommet up and out, and then lift this panel up.
Then, you can access this 7/32 bolt right here. Let's go ahead and remove that. Now just push in this tab and the switch will pop up so you can push it out the rest of the way. Then you want to disconnect these harnesses. For this first one, it's easiest if you use a flat blade screwdriver and just pry it free from the switch. You can see there's a tab on the bottom, and it just unclips. Then just push the tab on the harness and disconnect it. Do the same thing with these two. Then your switch is free and you can just pull it out of that plastic cover.
Up top is the old switch; below it is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they will fit exactly the same.
Now, just feed the switch back through that plastic cover and reconnect your harnesses. You can just push that harness back onto that clip and reconnect it. This tongue and this tongue here go into these grooves, so you want to put it down in place. I'm actually pulling forward on it as I slide it down in. We'll fast-forward as he tightens that bolt up.
Now, put your top back in place, and you can see right in here. Just make sure that this comes down and none of the wires get out of place. This should be down, and on the other side it's down as well. Now, replace this Phillips screw. Feed that panel back into place making sure your wires are out of the way, and then just reclip it.
Push this grommet back down into place until it clips back in. Then, push this side of that lower panel back up. Now, replace those two Phillips screws. Then push this panel straight back into place. Replace those two 7mm bolts, then you're all set.
