Hi, I'm John from 1A Auto. I hope this how to video helps you out. The next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we are going to show you how to service the tail light on this 2000, Chevy Caviler, same for any 2000 to 2002. It's a pretty easy process for it. You will see everything you need if you are just looking to change a bulb, as well as, you see the whole process if you want to change your rear taillight if it is broken or damaged in some way. If you are just looking to change a bulb, you don't need any tools. If you are changing a broken taillight assembly, then you will need either a 10mm wrench or a 10mm socket with a ratchet.
Open your trunk and if you have a cargo net, remove it from the little knot there, and twist that counterclockwise, and remove it. Then you can pull your insulation down out of the way. If you are just looking to change a bulb or if you are going to change the light, the taillight bulb simply turns a little bit counterclockwise and comes out. The bulb pulls straight out and pushes back in.
To change the entire taillight, there are three 10mm nuts. The best tool to use is a socket and ratchet, as you see here, but a wrench would work as well. Then, just pull the taillight out from the body. If you want to disconnect the socket, there is just a little tab, push down and pull. Okay, new taillight from 1A Auto is on the bottom. You can see it is exactly the same as the original. Put the taillight in place. You can put the bulb in there at first or you can wait until afterwards. But, get it in place and get the studs through correctly and then start on the 10mm nuts.
We will speed up here as we put those nuts on and then tighten them up. You don't want to over tighten them. You want to just tighten them nice and firm. Okay, now, make sure that your bulb and socket are in place and nice and secure. Then put your insulation back in place. Tuck the top right up under. Then put that retaining bolt in that holds your net, if you have it, and put the net back in place.
