Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the taillight on this 2004 Volvo XE-90. It's pretty easy. Only tool you'll need is either a 10mm wrench or a socket with a ratchet.
Okay, we're going to take the back part a little bit and lift up this cover. Okay, and sometimes these things will be down here. Just slide them up and off. On the other side, slide them off. Reach in and pull this whole assembly right out. Right over here, on each side, you just pull this block out. Then you can pull this access panel right off.
Okay, now looking in here you'll need a 10mm wrench or a socket and ratchet. There's actually a large nut protruding right out here. Put that on there. Once you loosen it up, it pretty much turns right out. Then this vehicle is missing the other one, but there should be another one. See if I can show it to you right up in that small hole. You can see that little stud there, so I should just show you what it will look like.
Okay, you'll reach in here again. 10mm wrench or socket ratchet. You'll see another fastener right up there, and remove that as well. Okay, now just grab the light and pull firmly back. There it is. If you're just looking to change a bulb, just twist on these lightly in counterclockwise. They come out, all the bulbs, you have to make sure you replace them with the correct bulbs, but the bulbs just push in counterclockwise. They come out reversed to get them back together. Push them in clockwise to lock them.
If you need to replace this whole assembly because it's been broken, then you just take all the bulbs out. There's a little pin here that holds the harness in. Take that off and the light comes off. Obviously my original's in good shape, so I'll reinstall it. Put this pin back in. Okay, then it's kind of just a matter of getting all the sockets in correctly. Twist clockwise, lock, then obviously you have these two long studs that go into holes in the body, as well as there's two smaller studs here that clip in to hold it in place. Make sure your wiring doesn't get in the way.
To get these back on, this little one goes in here. Just kind of push those harnesses out of the way, put your finger in on the end of the bolt, put that on it, and you can tell it goes right on. On there hand tight first, then use the socket. Tighten it up firm but not too tight. Repeat for the upper one. Like I said, this one's missing that one. Now put this panel in and put the top in first then down in then and put this filler right back in. Now it's back in place. Lift up and put these back down on. Okay, you're all set.
