In this video we're going to show you taillight replacement, both if you're just looking to change the bulb and the entire taillights on this '97 Dodge Intrepid, same as any '95 to '97. If you're just looking to change the bulbs you will need no tools. If you are looking at changing the taillight assembly because it's broken, you will need a flat blade screwdriver.
To change a taillight or even just a taillight bulb, on one of these Dodge Intrepids, is really pretty easy. I'll come around to the trunk. There are two thumb screws, one here and one down here. Then if you pull this insulation back and this insulation, you'll see two more right there and you'll remove all four of those thumb screws. We'll just fast forward as I remove those four thumb screws, accessed through the trunk.
I remove those four screws. I just pull it out and back. If you're just looking to change your bulbs, twist counterclockwise. The bulbs come out. The bulbs just pull from the socket. Push them back in.
If it's this part of the taillight that has been broken, then you'll probably need a screwdriver. There are basically two tabs. Push back on the tab and then pry it apart with your screwdriver. There's another one right down here. Push them back and pry it apart. Then the taillight comes apart from the body with that.
Our taillight, obviously, is in fine shape, so reinstallation is just a matter of lining up the tabs, and putting it back together. To install the bulbs, twist clockwise. Then there are the four studs and there's another aligning stud over here so just start your light in. Be sure that those all line up. We'll speed up here again as we put those four thumb nuts back on. Tighten them up nice and snug. Not too tight though.
