step 1 :Removing the Tailgate Cable
- Support your tailgate with an assistant
- Life the tailgate and slide the upper part of the cable up and off the stud
- Remove the T40 Torx bolt from the lower end of the cable
- Remove the cable

step 2 :Installing the New Tailgate Cable
- Insert the lower tailgate cable into place
- Line up the washer and tighten T40 Torx bolt to the lower end of the cable
- Hook the upper part of the cable into place

Changing your tailgate cables is pretty easy. One thing you want to make sure of is that you don't ever drop your tailgate down because you'll end up denting it and bending it. Make sure either you have something supporting or have a helper support your tailgate. Lift it up and slide this tailgate up. Lift it up a little bit and then it comes off. Then you use a T40 Torx bit and a wrench to remove this bolt. That comes off, don't lose your washer.
To put it back on, the bolt has a shoulder in it. You want to make sure that when you tighten it the shoulder goes into the cable and that it doesn't stay out here and pinch it. Just put the bolt through the washer back into the tailgate. Again, you don't want to tighten up and have this be stiff. You want to make sure that you get it out on the shoulder of the bolt, and after you tighten it up, it moves freely. Then bend this up like that and hook it back on up there and you're all set.
