How to Replace Tailgate Shock 2007-14 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Hey, friends. It's Len here at 1A Auto. Today, I'm working on a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I want to show you how to remove the shock for the rear tailgate. It's going to be fairly simple, and you can do it too. If you need any parts, you can always check us out at 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

So what we're going to do is going come over here. I'm going to try to unlock it first this way. Cool. You want to make sure you're not on too much of a hill. You don't want the door to come down and hit you or anything. We'll come right under here. There's this little tab. You just stick your small pocket screwdriver under it, lift it, bring it up and away, just like that, and this should just come right off theoretically. There we are. We'll do the same to the other side. Just going to go right underneath, lift it up, and there's our rear shock assembly.

Okay, so now it's time to reinstall the shock assembly. You're just going to put it right over the ball, bonk it down, take your small pocket screwdriver or whatever you happen to have, pull this back over to where you got it from. See if I can get this up there, and right there. There we are. Give it a nice tug. Can't go anywhere. And do this one. Doesn't match up, okay. Just bring the door in a little bit. Make it happen, captain. Slide that on there and push that over. Okay. Give that a nice tug. Here we are. Easy peasy.
